I know this is gonna get me in trouble. I know I'm holding myself out to be mocked and ridculed, but I gotta do it. I'm thinking of starting a Kevin Smith backlash. That's right. I've had juuuuust about enough of him. He was good at first, his renegade type of film was refereshing and enjoyable. I actually consider Chasing Amy and Mallrats to be amongst my favorites films ever. Is his stuff funny? Yes. Is it the be all and end all that a lot of people make it out to be. I think not. I think he's starting to get into the George Carlin/Robin Williams zone where people laugh at his material and give him accolades because they think they're supposed to. He has been ordained, if you will. The same thing hapened with Monty Python. People quote the parrot sketch and all the films because it somehow makes them feel superior in intellect and humor. Maybe that's the problem. Maybe the backlash isn't against the man himself, maybe it's against the fake, the phony, the poseurs, if you will. That's it! From now on no one is allowed to like Kevin Smith or Monty Python.

You have won nothing, sir. In my opinion, the people I listed in my post, save the Pythons, are not as funny as they are made out to be. George Carlin was funny 30 years ago. These days, his stuff is formulaic and tired; Robin Williams' whole manic shtick comes across as waaaay too rehearsed and pre-meditated; and Kevin Smith's films' dialogue, at one time fresh and different, has become predictable and boring. I still think he's funny and talented, but I don't believe he is the greatest thing since sliced Woody Allen. As far as Affleck and Damon, I think Matt Damon's work speaks for itself and Ben Affleck, while he can be wooden at times, performs wonderfully with the right script and direction, cases in point, Good Will Hunting and Shakespeare in Love.

The real problem is not the men themselves. (Smith, Carlin and Williams) The problem I have is people blindly accepting 'the word' that these men are funny and rolling in the aisles at every little remark. They're just not that funny.
