I wonder if Michael Jackson (who I love and admire) has this because of all of the plastic surgeries he has had.

Every now and then, I catch a program on Sunday night on WNEW called the "bald truth" and hear these guys going hysterical over losing some hair.

When should a person know they have this?

COCO - Although BDD can be said to apply to anyone who severely hate some aspect of their appearance it's most closely linked to the results of sexual abuse as in anorexia and bulimia.

It's not that the person is just sensitive to their appearance, it's that they have a grossly distorted body image. A 70 pound anorexic 5'6" woman who insists and truly believes she's too fat is a prime example.

Anorexia and bullimea are strongly related to issues of control (which is why there is such a strong correlation b/w eating disorders and sexual abuse).


I don't know enough about Michael Jackson to hazard a guess as to what's wrong with him, although evidence strongly suggests that he's a pedophile. If he doesn't like the way his body looks (too black, too big a nose, whatever) and he has a grossly distorted body image he may have the disorder. Then again he may be just plain nuts.

I guess I should never follow my intuition. But usually, I am about 99% right because I just have a very keen sense of perception, but I never believed Michael was a pedophile. It was never proven, and usually pedophiles have a continual record of molestation - not just one child in 20 years. Michael is very rich and there are a lot of opportunistic people out there. I don't think he is homosexual or into women. I think he might be asexual (not interested in either) and has a lot of hang ups. But, what he is sexually doesn't concern me. I just think the guy is really talented.

I definitely think he has body dysmorphic disorder though.

You are right, Sheepie, the show, I noticed does help a lot of guys out there restore their hair and to steer away from fraud products that don't work. But, when I hear guys saying that they have spent $20,000. on trying to restore their hair or getting very very upset about a little hair loss, I wonder.

You are right anorexia is a terrible disease and can be a part of body dysmorphic disorder.

I wish our society wasn't so hung up on looks!

Sheeplovr has dropped a nugget of truth there, why do these guys freaks out about a grey hair or losing one or two strands?. Teenage girls are slowly killing themselves in order to look "perfect"
