Straight Outta Compton-N.W.A
Fear Of A Black Planet- Public Enemy
Walking With A Panther- L.L Cool J
Original Gangsta- Ice-T
These were some of my favorites back in the day.....Theres so many others that totally died out nd 's hard to even remember them....Big Daddy Kane, EPMD, Eric B and Rakim, Kool Moe D. Anybody else listen to these classics way back then?
ANd if you could only own 1 rap albulm from that timeframe, which 1 would you pick. Even though this one came out after he was popular, I have to pick "Str8 Off Tha Streetz Of Muthaphukkin Compton" by the late great Eazy E. It was actually released after his death and hardly any rap ans even know about it since Bullshit Snoop Dogg was huge at the time.
"Straight off the streets of motherfuckin compton,
is the downest nigga i know,
Easy mutha fuckin me, bout to kick ass in 93"
If you dont know it, go buy this bitch, its by far his best.

I suppose this is borderline, but Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu, when it first came out was just before rap hit the big time. In fact, it was one of the albums that mainstreamed rap, but I doubt it was intended for that. Anyway. I love that album, I wore out the taped copy I had and had to buy the CD. Forget just the rap genre, I think it's one of the best albums ever.

Eric B. & Rakim - Paid in Full
Bizmarkie - The Diabolical
P.E. - Nation of Millions
Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory
EPMD - Strictly Business
Ice Cube - Amerikkka's Most Wanted
Easy E sucks ass!!! Cube wrote all of his shit while they were in NWA and also E Z duz it.
I Agree with Sheepy on most of the choices.

How do you explain all Ice Cubes albulms after "Amerikkkas Most Wanted" sucking, but Easy E's final work, years after N.W.A was fnished, was one of the best "gansta rap" aulms ever?

Just my opinion but...I'd take The Predator and Death Certificate over ANY Eazy E album. They're both great albums too. They just didn't fit the criteria you set up for the post. That's why I didn't mention them in the first place.
Death Certificate might even be his best album. It's tough to choose between that and Amerikkka.
Eazy E was maybe the 3rd best rapper in NWA. Cube and Dre have got him beat. Ren might've been a little better too.

Dude have you heard "Str8 Off the Streets" It's better then any Cube/Easy/Dre albulm solo or when they were together.
And Rens solo bombed and i never even bought it.
And thanks for not bringing up the later Cube albulms because they dont fit the criteria

I don't have a best rap album , but I would like to thank you for bringing up that rap is now mainstream. When the boy band shit was around the popular girls loved it (get ready for some school relatings to come out) and the popular boys where really just jocks. Now then since the britney spears and nysnc shit really died out the big thing is like Nelly and Ludacris like - happy rap. Mostly all the rap albums you guys have been talking about is like gangsta rap. Now it shouldn't even be called rap its pure wigger lovin hip hop. Like dance rap. BULLSHIT I TELL YA! BULLSHIT!

Wide awake

While I've never heard of Princess Superstar and I cant stand Cannibal Ox, I say yes, those groups all kick significant amounts of ass. However, this thread was about old school.

Yeah, but it quickly degenerated into the hoary old, "man, things was great back then! All rap today sucks! I'm 53!!! Blah-blah-blah!" Nothing sadder than a music fan stuck back in 1989...
