I was thinking on the way home, when the time comes and I sit my progeny in front of the old tube to show the wonder of George Lucas' universe, in what order do I show the films? Should I do it in the order they were released? Is that how Lucas wanted them to be seen, or was that just because he felt the middle three were better stories? Are they meant to be seen Episode I thru VI, as the fall and subsequent redemption of Anakin Skywalker? I can see arguments for both sides. Is it better to be shocked at Vader's revelation of fatherhood to Luke, or is it better to have that understanding as you watch Obi Wan take Luke under his wing as he did Anakin? Knowing the backstory certainly brings more meaning to that relationship. I don't know.

Well I was always told you start a story at the Begining. But when Star wars was Made (ep 4 New Hope) That was the one That Lucas felt could stand on it Own. and It Did

The original trilogy first, of course. Your children will probably find no interest it anyway, but you might as well try and hook them with the really good stuff first.

i would agree start with the original three, I think they would get hooked just for the simple notion ofthe excitement and by the third film you would like to know how darth vadar was lukes son and how he could turn and be that way.

I did that with my little cousins they lovedthe films and then they wanted to know how vadar turned

Do this...when you have a cold grey winter day, watch all the movies in one day and see what order you prefer...

I'd rather watch episodes 1-3 knowing Anakin becomes Darth Vader than watch episodes 4-6 knowing Vader is Luke's father. <P>

Since Star Wars will probably be OLD NEWS when your kid will understand long movies, I'd say show him the movies in release order. The 70's ones are shittier looking, so he'll get more excited as the movies get cooler effects.

But here's a novel idea Blakjeezis, and I'll try to be as nice about this as possible.

Why not give him books instead of the idiot box?

who know Lucas screwed up the star wars with the pre-squeal, eps 2 was a great step better than eps1, but unless eps3 is even better. For purposes skip eps1 and just the watch originals luke and the gang

Why not give him books instead of the idiot box?

First off, who the fuck asked you? Oh wait . . okay

First off, I am all in favor of books over TV, but certain films are absolutely worth seeing. Something like Star Wars, in much the same way a book does, excites the childhood imagination. It is beyond just mindless programs. I spent countless hours, a majority of them actually as I'm sure others did, reliving the adventures of Luke Skywalker and Co., as well as creating my own. There is a far cry between that and, I dunno, Barney.

I say show the last three first, then the first three. Like Pulp Fiction, it makes it more interesting to figure out the timeline in your head.

I cant wait till Ep3 is released and on DVD so that I can see what it will be like to show all the movies in order...and does anybody have any idea when the hell the original three are going to be released?? I have a feeling by the time Lucas gets around to it, DVD's will be obsolete...

whatch them in cronological (episode) order and see how many errors/inconsitencies you find in 1-3 (like the whole C3PO being built by Anakin thing)

Ok Blakjeezis. I understand your point now. I guess Star Wars IS a lot better than Barney and those DEMONIC Telle Tubbies.

I must say that I loved Star Trek as a kid. It's a show with a little redeeming value, and one that can help expand imagination, as are the Star Wars movies.

Just make sure you teach little Jeezis cool Jedi mind tricks.

Show the original trilogy.

Don't show the prequels. Try and convince your kids they never happened.

Then take a hint from Moe - give them books.

Specifically, the Thrawn Trilogy of Star Wars novels written by Timothy Zahn. They're only about 3865 times BETTER than the prequels.

I didn't mean Star Wars books specifically, but hell, why not. just make sure you make your kid read the Lord of the Rings trilogy first!

I say start from the beginning knowing that each episode will improve...well, except for #3 and "Return of The Jedi" (although Carrie Fisher looked hot in the "steel bikini").
