Is it really possible to make a game that's better then GTA3? Apparently they are looking to do so... Grand Theft Auto: Vice City comes out in October. I heard about this not to long ago and I thought here was a topic I could post on and fill everyone in on what I know about the game. From what I've heard/read it's going to take place in the 1980's. It won't be a sequal to the GTA3 but instead somewhat of a prequal. This time around we can expect to be able to fly those annoying police helicopters. And it's rumoured that players will have access to the inside of buildings. To be included amongst the new array of cars there will be motorcycles. (If I'm not mistaken I believe that the first GTA had motorcyles). I, for one can't, wait to speed around cars while cops are chasing me and perhaps get into some horrifying accident. And lastly the people on the streets will become more animated and the player will be able to interact with them, how cool is that?

Well... that's all I know of right now. If anyone can add anything, feel free to post...

There haven't been many details released regarding Vice City, other than the ones mentioned already. The game isn't a sequel (or prequel) but a separate game building off the same concepts as GTA3 (open ended gameplay, third person 3d engine, etc.) according to some sources.

The ability to enter buildings would be a big bonus. Hopefully it'll be a better effort than State of Emergency, which was an interesting concept but a largely boring game.

Even if Rockstar and DMA only added new missions and graphics, the game would be a hit, but if there's been an overhaul, I think we can expect great things.

Bust out the five o'clock shadow and tacky pastel suits, gentlemen. Crockett and Tubbs are back in town.

I think it is a prequel because I read somewhere that many characters from GTA3 will be showing up. You will not be the character you were in GTA3. It's set in the 1980's so there will be plenty of girl mullets and poofy hair.

There is always room for improvement, even with GTA3, hence the newer version comming out . This has got to be one of the greatest games ever put out there and Vice City will prove this once again. With all the new rumored additions it can only be better.
I got mine preordered and cant wait till I get my hands on it.
Like GTA3, when I get this one I will not rest untill the game is complete.

I'm waiting to see which developer maxes out the PS2 hardware. GTA3 did a pretty good job of sqeezing power out of that little black box. I wonder what graphic improvements and added depth and complexity they are working on?

The beauty of the Grand Theft Auto series is that the gameplay more than makes up for whatever graphical shortcomings the games suffer from. I must admit though, GTA3 was a pretty game (although nothing compared to the upcoming game The Getaway). But the open-ended nature of the game was it's strongest attribute.

ok. . . from what i have heard, Vice City will be like The London 1969 game, an expansion (well for pc anyway) they are going to market vice city massively for ps2 and then after 6 months release it for pc. Its the only smart thing to do. Damn i want to beat a guy with a mullet with a bat in GTA.

Here's part of a press release from Rockstar, courtesy of GameSpyDaily:

"From the decade of big hair, excess and pastel suits comes a story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile as Grand Theft Auto returns to the PlayStation 2 Computer Entertainment System this October. Vice City is a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, and is the most varied, complete and alive digital city ever created. Combining non-linear gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and are given the opportunity to take it over as you choose.

Explore the Vice City Bureau of Investigations fully to gain valuable insight into who's who and what's what in Vice City. Amongst other official information and documentation in the office, you will find Vice City's crime tree with profiles on some of the city's key players, businesses which are currently under suspicion, impounded vehicles and various confiscated weapons. Naturally as cases develop, files, profiles and documentation will be updated. So check it regularly."

They just posted up a new site from the Rockstar homepage, but the link isn't working right now. I'll post more when it's available, or keep checking http://www.rockstargames.com for further notices.

Here's something cool for those of you with broadband...FilePlanet has a downloadable 1 minute teaser. If you don't mind waiting in line to get it, I think it's a worthwhile video. The file is 23mb compressed. <P>

More news. Gamespot.com has the 1 minute trailer, as well as another video that shows some of the vehicles in the game. Lamborghinis, Corvettes, motorcycles, and big-ass grandpa mobiles are all shown off in the video. They also posted a movie showing off the weapons. Check it out if you subscribe to Gamespot, otherwise you'll only be able to access the 1 minute trailer.
