I just picked up a guitar tonite... and I was wondering if I could get an average amount of time it takes a student to learn the guitar well enough to sound like he/she knows what they are doing...
any help?

That's because you are outside the studio door, listening to the sounds squeaking out from the door jam.;)

The noise that the hinges make when you open the door are better than what comes from his amp!

Jealousy is a hideous thing, Richie baby. I told you I'd be more than willing to teach you how to play that bass of yours, so put away your pride and I'll be more than happy to give you a lesson or two.

It mostly depends on the amount of time you put into practice. I recommend you start off with learning the basic chords. Try and get any of the chord books they sell in music stores (such as those "Mel Bay books").
