Anybody remember John Carpenter's remake of The Thing in 1982? A PS2 game just came out that's going to put Resident Evil and Silent Hill to shame. Check it out. That link is only good for a week, so read the review while you can.

Its coming to XBOX too. I think it looks good, but i hate scary games so it'll have to get really good reviews for me to pick it up.

Obviously, it's all a matter of preference of course. What I find interesting about the design of this game is the fact that the NPC's dynamically adjust their behavior depending on the situation. If they get spooked seeing the Thing kill someone or mutate, they get frightened...even wet their pants or vomit. You have to regain their trust by fighting alongside them or healing them after a battle. Some will even turn on you if they feel you're not fighting hard enough (because to them, you might be the Thing in disguise).

It's more action packed than Silent Hill 2, that's for sure. Whether or not it's as scary or captivating remains to be seen. I tried picking up a copy today, but the store isn't getting theirs until Tuesday (damn!). My buddy bought the game and a 12 pack and is tackling it this weekend (his wife is away). I can't wait to find out what he thinks. Of course he may be loaded...

well, i don't read up on games lately (due to the fact they end up either being really cool and get canceled or suck bolls). But if i had a ps2 i'd definately get a Blockbuster game freedom pass and rent it.

The game is out already. My buddy picked it up over the weekend and gave it decent reviews for the most part. Graphically, he said it was great. He was frustrated by the difficulty of the game but wants to go back and play it some more before giving me his final opinion on it. He's not a big fan of Silent Hill or Resident Evil, so I think that has something to do with it, although to tell you the truth, this game has a lot more combat in it than both of those other games.

I just picked the game up today, so after I get a chance to play it myself I'll post my review.

I heard the best part of the game is figuring out who you can trust in your squadron.

Can you even trust yourself? I might pick this up.

All I know is, I couldn't trust myself with 50 bucks. I had to go out and buy this damn game for full price which is something I rarely do. On a positive note, I think it was one of those few games that was actually worth it. It's like playing an interactive movie. And how can you argue with a game littered with expletives?

How about search eBay? It'll probably be 10-15 bucks off.

I tried, but honestly it's tough to get a worthwhile deal on ebay for a game that just came out. People pay top dollar, and there's a limited supply and high demand. Factor in the fact that it's used merchandise as well as the fact that you pay shipping, you're essentially not doing any better (plus you have to wait to receive it).

On older games, you can score massive deals, though. I'm still trying to find a used Xbox for cheap.

For once, though, I don't feel bad about spending the cash on this. Most of the time, I'm trolling the Greatest hits and used bins for deals, so it's ok to cheat once in awhile!

Ok, so I had about 1 1/2 hours to putz around with the game today. It's really cool, and thankfully the in-game tutorials make for a shallow learning curve. I'm still getting the hang of all the different controls and menus, but all in all it's well designed. The dialogue is believable, the action is frantic, and the sense of desolation and fear is immense. Can't wait to find that flamethrower!

I haven't gotten very far...only to the Norwegian base where I found 2 guys. I need to start the game over and stop giving my guns away. By the time I met up with the medic and engineer, I had no weapons and had to run away like a little girl from those puny headcrab looking things!

By the way, did you find any survivors at the American base? I ran all over the place and couldn't find anyone, nor did I find McCready's body.

Awesome game, but the fighting controls are awkward. Two of my guys busted open and attacked me, and I ended up melting my shoes with the flamethrower. Damn.

Holy crap! I found the blood test and all of a sudden these huge Things started coming after me. I gotta practice with those controls. I spent a few precious seconds fumbling for the torch and the other guy with me got killed. Game over man...GAME OVER!!!

Innocent pixel...hehehe I know what you mean. I got all misty eyed when I had to torch the medic and the soldier guy.

I figured out something (that most everybody playing probably already knows). To get at objects that are obscured by crates, you can shoot the wooden boxes (if they are stacked, aim at the bottom one, it will cause the top one to collapse without shooting it). That's how you get the 5th page of the autopsy at the American base.

Also, you'll find a special weapon behind some wooden crates at the Norwegian base while killing the 3 Walker things. It's in one of the bedrooms, in a case, behind a bunch of boxes. You can also torch the boxes with the flame thrower if you want.

When you're fighting off Things in a room with windows, close any open doors so they can't attack you from behind while you're taking out the critters coming in.
