The 12 censored Bugs Bunny cartoons that are now banned from ever being shown again on the cartoon network can be played and downloaded by going to this site

quite a shame really, these are still good cartoons just because they feature a small amount of Black, Japanese, Native american stereotypes doesn't mean they don't have to be shown ever again...you decide.

It's just as bad as AMC editing the "The Little Rascals" which they plan to run soon.

I think this situation is much more complicated then people want to accept.
It helps no one to sweep these things under the carpet and pretend like they never happen. Its like those schools that want to take Uncle Toms Cabin out of the libraries because it has the word nigger in it. To me that is ridiculous revisionist history. That was the way people spoke then andi ts important that people no that. But by no means do I think these cartoons have any business being run along with other cartoons on the cartoon network. If it were in a retrospective, certainly. But what you call a small amount of stereotypes, I call disgusting racism at its worst. Young children do not need to watch cartoons teaching them that blacks are lazy, dirty and stupid. They don't need to be taught that japanese people are sneaky. Those cartoons ran during a black period in our history. A history we don't need to repeat, but we must never forget.

Good point Sarutama, but the question is this: Who decides what is offensive and what's not? Especially in comedy?

This to me isn't a matter of what is and is not offensive.
My circle of frineds is made up of people of all different religous, ethnic, and racial backgrounds. Myself and my one friend is are black and the rest of the group is composed of two white guys, an asian and a jew. We always make racial jokes amongst each other. I don't find racial humour offensive. But the content of these cartoons, IMO go beyond humour. They serve only to perpetuate racist stereotypes and to teach children that members of certain groups are less than human. And if the members of this board find that sort of thing funny, I'm clearly in the wrong place

So it's ok to tell racist jokes among friends but not ok in a public forum? I think that it's not what you say, but how you say it. It's all about context. You can't have it both ways. Comedy is comedy, and I think that editing and banning "questionable" material is dangerous. As for children, I think parents have an obligation and the respsonsibility to raise their children correctly.
And by the way, if you are a fan of Ron and Fez, you are in the "right" place. This board is all about having fun!

I agree it is all about context. The context when you are with your friends, and poking fun at their ethnicity is completely different from the context of these cartoons. Its more then just the cartoons themselves that disgusts me, its the time period that spawned them. To paraphrase Dennis Miller, as few as 35 years ago this country was south africa with out the diamond mines. The atmosphere that spawned these cartoons was not one of equality through humour(a concept I whole heartedly support, make fun of everybody, then everybodies equal) it was an atmosphere of hatred, violence, discrimination and murder. Showing these cartoons as humour is pissing on the memory of every person(white, black and otherwise) that gave their life fighting for civil rights and equality. It is a slap in the face to every black person in the country.
Let me as you this, if you replace Bugs bunny with Bugs the clan member, had him deliver all the same lines and jokes, yet instead of bugs bunny it was a guy in Klan hood and robe, would people even think about standing up for them.
Now let me reiterate, I believe whole heartedly in freedom of speech. I firmly believe that hate speech much be protected in order to protect a persons right to protest it. I'm not saying that a person should not be allowed to make a cartoon like this if they so desire. I'm just excersing my freedom of speech in rallying against them. I am saying that I pay my cable bill like everyone else, and as paying customers
I feel that if the majority of people feel that they shouldn't be shown, then they shouldn't. If the majoirty says the should be shown, then they should. I'll just stop subscribing.

P.S. Id also like to say that I haven't had such an intelligent conversation in quite sometime, and I apprecciate that

I can see the black and asian angle for this...but who cares if a few injuns complain?

If they do, we just slaughter the lot of them and take their casinos...like the good ol' days!
