Is a psycologist the one who gives you the drugs?

Or is it a Psychatrist, and is that a CSW?? Im so confused as to this, thanks!

A psychIATRIST (or an MD) can write prescriptions.

My best advice to you? Study up on meds. The most ideal situation is to deal with someone who can do psychotherapy AND write out prescriptions. Psychotropic medications tend to be "hit and miss." You very much work with the doctor who prescribes the drugs. When it comes to meds, you really are "the expert" (since you have to pay attention to how it makes you feel, how you react, what side effects you experience) You REALLY need to find someone you feel comfortable with and can work with.

And it so pays to find a therapist you feel COMFORTABLE with!!

MS. FUZZYBUTT is correct once again. Only an MD (a psychiatrist) may prescribe drugs. A psychologist and social worker cannot.

Although the psychiatrist is supposed to be monitoring your drug usage and its effect, you are well served to advocate on your own behalf. The shrink can't get inside your body and feel what you're feeling. Often several meds must be tried before an effective one (or combination) is arrived at.
