i attended the anime expo '02 today, it was great! well, that is, if you are an anime fan like me. this got me to thinking, is anyone at this board an anime fan?

i'm not talking about "hentai" either, which is the porno versions of anime. everyone gets them confused.

the story lines are complex and addictively twisted. the animation itself just looks awsome, and the characters are deep and developed.

anyone else here like anime? comments...

Best...Hippie...EVER.

So tell us, what is flat-out THE most violent cartoon you've ever seen?

I just saw the Japanese film "Battle Royale", and while not animated, it was about the most violent non-horror film I've ever seen. Buncha kids stuck on an island, and they air their grievances with each other in the most bloody ways possible. Just wait for the exploding neck...

Close second is "A Better Tomorrow 2"...or at least the last twnty minutes of it.

my fav anime is "princess mononoke", but the most violent is probably still "fist of the north star"

unfortunately, these days most of the anime i get comes from cartoon network, although the stuff they play there is great shit.

there's a thread somewhere where someone asked for picks as to the best anime for someone to watch. i tried to search for it, but couldn't find it

Everything pales in the face of "Cowboy Bebop". All hail.

I've found myself getting into the oringinal Dragonball. Its a bit silly, but it's interesting to see where all the characters cmae from and how they developed before DBZ (which i used to watch religiously but am getting tired of the repeats)

I've tried to watch "Gundam", and while I've liked what I've seen, the series is just too massive for me to get what's going on...

I like it when I can catch "Outlaw Star" and "Big O" as well...

gundam is great, but you really have to watch every episode

big o has a very cool concept (the city without memories) but they don't do enough with that. they should make it more like a film noir to set it apart

outlaw star rocks the mofo'in house.

and am i the only one who liked the tenchi series? i heard it was nearly hentai in japan

if you get the chance, there's a really good japanese series called "rouronin kenshin." not very bloody, but still good stuff

Don't remember this thread saying "anime-haters, post HERE!", but whatever...

Hippie, when I lived over in Bangkok, I saw all the series uncut, uncluding DBZ and Tenchi...Tenchi wasn't quite hentai, but it sure could pass as late night Skinemax material at times...at least in the first couple seasons...it was a lot like "Undressed" on MTV, just with actual T&A...and the first few seasons of DBZ were violent as all get out...I really can't watch it here in America...they have to edit so much out it makes it seem like everyone just stands around talking for 20 minutes and then just two minutes of action.

Me too, i loved that show so much. I dont' really like the new ones as much. Its just a Super Saiyan Saga. No one else has a chance anymore. I liked the Namek ones the best.

I went to Otakon, but decided to pass on Anime Expo NY and BAAF this weekend. I'll hit up the anime con in NJ in Oct.

I really like Cowboy Bebop, but my fave is Rurouni Kenshin.

At Otakon, my friends dressed as the guys from Weiz Krutz and the girls were all over them. One girl even asked my friend to sleep with her. I was all but ignored because I wasn't in a costume.

I thought Jin-Roh just dragged way too much in the middle.

And why did no one recommend Ninja Scroll yet?

And hippie, you want SM Doujinshi. Available on ebay and some of your less than finer websites.

HAMTARO!!!!

I love anime. However, I lack the sufficient funds to buy much of it.

I do like Tenchi Muyo though. What a fag that Tench is - a half dozen chicks (at least) around him at all times, and he ain't banging a one of them.

BTW, anyone, let me know if you need hentai doujinshis, cause I'm totally without morals or scruples and will absolutely point you in the right direction.

I've been talking about setting up an ftp with someone for something else, but if there was interest, I'd consider running an anime ftp as well. It is legal to distribute fan subbed works that are not licensed in the US (series like One Piece and Final Fantasy Unlimited), but not those that are (Kenshin, SM, etc.)

And yes, I do have all 25 eps of FFU. No, I've only seen the first 4.
