Prisons suspend Satanic services

Prisons in Kentucky say they have now stopped inmates from practising formal satanic worship.

Inmates had been allowed to hold weekly ceremonies as part of the official religious services calendar.

Senior prison service officials say they didn't realise prisoners were being allowed to worship Satan.

Services were suspended at the state's Green River prison after an investigation by the Lexington Herald-Leadernewspaper.

Satanism was officially allowed at the prison after a warden thought it was better to have it monitored in a controlled environment rather than on the prison yard.

Lisa Carnahan, a spokeswoman for the state's prison service, said: "We honestly didn't know it was on the religious calendar.

"We are researching it to see what we are required to allow under the law. But we've found information that indicates that satanic services could be a threat to the institutions, so for now, we won't aid or abet satanic worship."

Wicca services, which see the use of witchcraft, have not been suspended.

Stanism isn't what the media made it out to be. Its not that bad of a religion. LeVay's Satanic Bible was a very moving religious book. But still I am atheist. Its not like they are hurting anyone. they are just people of a different religion. Just because people believe in different gods and all, doesn't make them bad people

Sounds good in theory. However, I've spoken to some corrections officers about this and they've all said that taking away priveleges like working out, TV, etc would make there job all but impossible. What you'd have is a few thousand guys, 99% of them seriously bad dudes, full of energy with nothing to do. That is a recipe for disaster.

Uh oh. I find myself agreeing with Bob Grant.

A person convicted of a violent crime should be immediately killed. It may not deter crime (although studies suggest otherwise) but it will prevent that guy from committing a crime agian. And as many murderers, rapists, etc are 3 or 4 etc time offenders, the criminal system that puts them in jail and does not execute them like the animals they are shares in the liability for all future crimes they commit.

Don't waste a cent keeping these animals (sorry to insult the animals) alive. Spend the money instead on increasing social security or passing a fair living wage law or just reduce the national debt.
