HK, we all know that what happened was a horrible tradgity. Why do these news people have to shove it in our face again? I mean some are and some arent. For instance NBC is going to do a tribute show and they are advertising that there is never seen before footage. As if we need to see more footage of these towers falling and people dying. In my oppinion we dont need to see this again. Honstly do you think all this is the right thing to do , cause I sure dont!

the media doesn't care about right and wrong, it only cares about ratings and profit. i don't doubt that it would start another war if it could to get people to watch the news all the time again.

this is a bit off the subject, but there was a brilliant satire a few years back called "wag the dog." It's about the government and media fabricating a war. While obviously fiction, the motivations seem pretty damn accurate.

I actually liked the movie, it had Clinton written all over it. But I dont see the connection to this topic. As to the topic at hand, I agree with AG that most of us are still healing, and do not need it everywhere all over again. It's good to know that it's there if u want it, maybe to refresh the minds of those who have forgotten...but every channel every hour I think is a bit much.

IF you don't like it don;t watch. Some people want
to see this stuff some don;t if you are part of the
don't then don;t watch TV. People who say there
should not be movies/documentaries.... Well, there
have been shows called MASH and other shows....
Why should we forget this? I am not sure what the
stations should do but I know if I don;t want to
watch I will just close the TV or rent a movie like
ROCKY!!

Before work tonight I watched a special on MSNBC re. the towers. I kept wanting to change the channel but couldn't, I was just dumbstruck at it all over again. Even though I'm bummed out I think it's a good idea to show it again. People, especially those away from the action, forget pretty quickly.

AG - I have very mixed feelings about the commemoration.

On the one hand it is absolutely essential to remember what happened and to know that evil of such great scope exists in the world. It is also essential to remember the victims and heroes of 9/11 and to commemorate their deaths and sacrifices.

However, many, many people (myself included) will not be able to handle watching the planes hitting the towers and their collapse and the destruction and devestation that these terrorists caused. I heard the commercial where they advertised "brand new footage of the planes hitting and the towers collapsing" and it made me sick. I know how many people will be terribly affected in all sorts of negative ways, from post traumatic stress, to depression, to neurosis, paranoia, etc by watching the tapes yet again.

So, while I believe that a commemorative service is essential, and honor paid to the heroes and volunteers who helped so much during and after the terrorist attacks, and the names of those killed by the terrorist must not be forgotten, I do not believe that seeing the footage (or even more gory footage) will help many people. Just the opposite, the potential for harm is very great.

To me, it looks like the country has forgotten already, forgotten how scared we all were that day, and we need to remember what these people did to us....

In fact, here's an Idea for you "Dog Waggers"... On September 10th, go out and rent 2 movies: 1st the HBO movie "Path to Paradise," Then the Movie, "The Seige" with Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis, then watch the Sept 11 footage all over again, and tell me what you think after that...

Also, here's an argument that sounds familiar, if you don't like it, if you really want to keep your head in the sand and beleive everything is happy and sunny and everyone is freindly and wonderful and nothing's wrong in the world, then DON'T WATCH... there's no reason to pull something from the air because some people don't want to see it....
hmm, sounds like something else, too. let's not be hypocrates, ok?

Holy crap, I have to change my mind. After listening to the callers today, THE MORE DOCUMENTARIES AND RECREATIONS THE BETTER!!! Holy s---...at 1st i thought the guy going to 6 flags had a good point. Go to 6 flags to get away from it all for a few hours..BUT THEN he says because its just another day and another 3000 or so deaths that happens every day!! holy f i couldnt believe people like this exist! Sit this guy down in front of cnn 0n 9/11/02 from 7am-2pm..then have him listen to r and f from 2pm-11pm..if he still thinks its no big deal...shoot him.

I admit it's loosely connected, but in my mind its very connected because i am working on an article about the media right now (i'll be posting it for feedback someday)

To me, the connection is that the media can manipulate everything we see and hear, as they did in "Wag the Dog." they are our eyes and ears, yet they have their own agenda, and that agenda is money.

An example: Let's look at the Opie and Anthony situation. We all know what really happened, but no media outlet reported the true story, not because they didn't get it, but because they altered it so that it would get the most attention. What sounds better: an exhibitional contest to have sex all over new york, or a plot to offend the catholics by having sex in the most famous church in America during a holiday?

I went to school, and graduated top of my class with a degree in creative writing. People often said to me, "you should become a journalist" but how could I when I know what they do? I could never write for the New York Post and look myself in the mirror.

We trust the media to be our "eyes and ears" but they are faulty glasses, blurred by their own ambition.

But there's no denying that the images of Sept 11 were not manipulations, they were very real, and to talk about media manipulation in regards to this situation really cheapens the reality of it, of what happened to all those people, the people and offices that a very close friend of mine worked in just a few years earlier... The mother of a current co-worker of hers who was in the second plane, the images of burning bodies falling from the towers, the shattering of the airplanes as they hit, and to know this was done ON PURPOSE....
I've never forgotton that day, the horror of wondering how many more planes were coming down, if this was some mass collaberation, and the America hating Palestinean students at my Alma-mater (where I work across the street from and still have friends there) were given orders to kill americans left and right. (And dont give me any racist bullshit, I used to listen to them talk about what they wanted to happen to Americans...) not knowing if friends in the city were even still alive....

We can never forget what they put us through, and tragically, we are, we NEED to see this....

JERRY - My opinion was limited to whether it's a good idea to watch images of the towers being hit and collapsing. For many it would be a very bad idea.

HOWEVER, it is essential that our rightous anger not be sated until all those responsible (and all those who would like to do the same) are killed. All the terrorists (save one) came from Saudi Arabia. We should destroy that country and take over their oil fields - which, by the way, was built with US money. In that way, we will never have to let the arabs dictate to us in any manner whatsoever.

Iraq is a good target as well.

We must never forget.

I'm all for taking out Saudi Arabia, but it depresses me to no end how futile that would just be. Taking over the country would just breed more resentment. In theory, all you need is one pissed off Saudi Arabian to cross the border and hook up with some extremists, be trained, sent to the U.S., have a bomb strapped to his chest, and level and office building and hundreds of people. The only way to definitvely get rid of terrorism like we saw on 9/11 would be to kill nearly ever Iranian, Iraqi, Palestinian, Lybian, Egyptian, Saudi Arabian, etc...and that's mass genocide on a level worse than even Hitler and Stalin. It's so fucking frustrating...I just want to shout, on behalf of Americans everywhere, "what did we do to deserve THIS?!?" Sure, we're no angels, but this is just wrong. The death, the fear, the tension, the anger...what right do other people have to put us through this? It's fist-clenchingly maddening...

was the footage edited? Yes, it was. The producer decides what goes on the air and what doesn't. the editor cleans up the footage to make it "cleaner looking." Do you really think there was no human intervention there?

and look at the difference between what was on our networks and what was on the spanish channels. We censored alot of the more grotesque stuff. Why? because they didn't want anyone to be so appalled that they'd turn the tv off!

even "live" and even during our greatest of tragedies, the media is still working its magic
