I am at a loss at to how to remember the lives lost in 9/11. I know with certain events in my life I tend to equate songs to them. I remember reading a story in the paper about a fireman many weeks after 9/11 who wanted to know if a particular lady he brought out of the building was still alive as he remembered her mentioning her kids she had. I was thinking about him and that day went home and heard this song on the radio and was moved to tears about it. (The song was originally derived from an incident that happened at a boys orphanage in Nebraska where a couple of boys wanted to go swimming one day and one boy was crippled and was crying he couldn't go. Another boy picked him up and carried him on his shoulders to the lake. When the adult in charge asked the other boys to help him, the boy responded "that is ok, he ain't heavy he's my brother".)
Here is the lyrics by the Hollies: (If anyone else has any song that want to post, please do so, I'd like to read them.)
He ain't heavy he's my brother
The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows where
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go
His welfare is my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
Bridge:
If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with gladness
And love for one another
It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
He's my brother
He ain't heavy, He's my brother
