View Full Version : Random Acts of Kindness

At work tonight, one of my regular customers gave me a very expensive camera as a gift. I thought he was crazy but insisted that I take it. I did feel kind of weird but he wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. Now I don't know if he expects me to hangout or be his friend now but it's out of the question. I am just not like that. But, it was very sweet of him.
I like random acts of kindness. I try to do them as much as possible. Anyone else do them?

Before I got married, I used to do them a lot. I used to buy things for people for no apparent reason, girls included. I never did it as a way of flirting or expecting anything back. It was just how I was. Now I bust my ass at work and I have a wife and son who mean the world to me. I just take care of them now. Times change for the better. When I spent on other people, i lived at home, had a lousy job so whatever money i made i wasted, no responsibility.

On Route 27, me and the car driving next to me simultaneously stopped in order to let some old couple turn left into a gas station. I almost cried.

There is another time I was heading to Queens to go register for some classes. I lost my money for the toll and I had to pull over to the side to give my information to an officer. All of a sudden, an older couple pulled over and gave me the money. It turns out, they were behind me and saw that I couldn't find my money. I asked if I can have their information so I can write them a check and they said no, gave me the money and drove away. I thought it was so nice of them.

I do it all the time and don't even realize it sometimes. I've given some food I bought for myself to some homeless people. When at Six Flags if I won a couple of stuffed animals in the cranes I hand them to kids and women just to see what their reaction would be. When some of my older neighbors are in the supermarket across the street after I check out I'll wait to help them with their bags. And the thing that isn't even an after thought for me but people are always shocked when someone does it for them, just holding the door open for some people.

I'm with Hosp on this one. Most people do get surprised when you do something as simple as open the door.
I one payed for the 5 people who were behind me at the tolls on the GSP (Garden State Parkway for all you NON-NJ people). I still pay for peoples' toll fee once in a while. Kinda keep the flow going.
And whenever I see an elderly person with grocerys (did I spell it right??) I always offer to help him/her.
One Random act of kindness is good for the soul.

It's the little things that count...the other night, I got off work real late, went by Wendy's because I was dying for some food...I ended up being almost two dollars short, but the guy at the window just smiled and say "eh, forget asbout it! Enjoy!"

My barber was great. Once I didn't have enough cash, and he just let it go, saying not to worry about it. What's upsetting now is the guy is in the hospital due to heart problems, and he's thinking of closing up shop.
And just the other day, i met my sister at a pizza place for a slice, and we walked out forgetting to pay. I felt bad, and called the pizza place, and the guy said not to worry about it, because he knew i'd pay him back anyway.
I guess it's a bit different when you're a regular customer, but it's still nice to know that those relationships, even though they're involved in buying/selling something, still have mutual trust and respect.

random acts of kindness
Its a part of my everyday life,it should be apart of everyones.
I try not to talk about them, I get my reward later.
Its great to share the kind act that someone does for you, that helps to spread the word that kind ,caring people are not a thing of the past. But that there still is so much goodness in this world.

When I lived it the city, sometimes on the way home from work on cold winter nights I'd give away my hat, scarf and gloves, to homeless guys I'd see without them. It always hit me hard that I was on my way home to a warm apartment and a hot meal, and they were just sitting on some piece of carboard, or huddled over a subway grate with no place to go. The memory of doing that kind of thing is something that makes me feel better about myself when I'm feeling down.

I know that when I want to get that warm squishy feeling inside, I give myself and my new little friend a random act of kindness...huddla huddla

the unfortunate reality is
that most homeless people
are that way due to the fact
that they are mentally
retarted, psychotic or
schitzophrenic. not good.
so do what the guys above
said, and give em stuff. do
what you can. the reality is
most of them CAN'T hold a
job b/c of their condition, so
be compassionate.
what does piss me off is
FAT homeless people. that
i dont get.

Well, durrr, that's why you don't sign your lease over to them or give them a job at dad's law firm. But a nice meal or a little money for transportation or a few smokes never hurt anyone...

i always do random acts of kindness like i open doors for people, helped an old person across the street or help them with their groceries i buy homeless people food, almost two years ago i helped a homeless man find his family after over 10 years, dont know if he ever made it home, the last time i saw him he wanted to give me money that he had, and i refused to take it, my bellman and I here at work still talk about it and wonder if he got home. its in some peopls nature to do these things, i guess it is just the way some of us are

I never really do "random" acts of kindness, but I always give the homeless money when they ask for it, sometimes I even buy them some food.

Be it shoveling snow for ederly neighbors, surprising a friend who's down with a little pick-me-up gift & card, over tipping an obviously over worked waitress, or just holding the door open for the next bunch of people behind me, I always enjoy the chance to do something nice.
In reading this thread, I'm glad to see that so many others enjoy it as well. And Craig, that thing with the flowers for the checkout lady.... awesome story!!!

For the past year or two, I've the the one at my office to bring in a basket of different kinds of candy a month.
As for me receiving?.. well, yeah I get flowers, and candy and shoes (for no reason).. lol.. But nothing tops the time that I was talking to this guy (never met him) about sex and he mentioned not being circumcised... I told him how cleaner and prettier *hehe* the penis looked w/o that extra skin.. he told me he'd get it removed for me.. a week later he calls saying he has an appointment at his mom's hospital, after he 'got it done' I didn't hear from him for a bit, then when I did, he told me how much it hurt and had the paperwork to prove he did.. I dunno if that's an 'ACT OF KINDNESS', but I don't know anyone else who would do that.
P.S. He's 19 and now talks about dealing again just to get me a car (probably stolen).. and I have yet to meet him! *hehe*
