ok, so now it looks like it was all a joke. big joke. These men were apparently upset that they were being looked at oddly because they were muslims. So, they said, loud enough to be heard, "u think 9-11 was bad..americans will truly mourn for 9-13". Patrons and workers at the diner rightly took down the license plate # and called authorities, who acted swiftly. Now these guys families are on cnn complaining that their sons are being treated too harshly for such a little prank. ARE THEY SERIOUS??? Maybe now, since they know that America sucks, theyll go back to their homeland. These are guys who are supposedly studying to be medical doctors here in the US...do u want a guy who cant figure out that if he makes a terrorist threat he will be treated like a terrorist, asking you to turn and cough? i dont.

There should obviously be a punishment for these clowns. You can't call in fake bomb scares, which is essentially what this was, and you can't yell Fire in a crowded theater. Put 'em before a judge and give 'em some time. The climate of the country is such that theses types of antics cannot be tolerated.

"I hope I haven't done something wrong," she said in the Fox News Channel interview. "I hope I haven't caused someone problems that really didn't do anything because I wouldn't want to cause someone problems. But at the same time I thought, what if they really are doing something and I caught them?"
Eunice Stone did EXACTLY what anybody else would have done. All we've heard for the past year is to keep our eyes open for anything suspicious.

I just got home from work, it's 10:30pm, and I had the joy of reading this thread. I don't think my night can get any worse. Here's the problem.
These men were apparently upset that they were being looked at oddly because they were muslims
ChrisTheCop, according to an interview I just saw on CNN with Aaron Brown, all 3 said that they were treated incredibly nicely, and that there were no odd looks or suspicion that they felt at the restaurant they were in.
Of course they could be lying. But so could Eunice Stone, the lady who made the original accusations.
Patrons and workers at the diner rightly took down the license plate # and called authorities, who acted swiftly
Almost completely untrue statement there by you, sorry to say. It was one woman who reported them to the authorities(and who noted down their license plate), not "patrons" as you said. As of 10:00 tonight, there have been no others that have stepped forward, or who were reported to have stepped forward making these accusations.
Of course some others might..but I haven't heard anything as of yet.
Now these guys families are on cnn complaining that their sons are being treated too harshly for such a little prank. ARE THEY SERIOUS???
Well, I personally haven't heard anything specific as to their families saying they pulled a prank...they wouldn't know anyway, since they weren't there. I believe I heard something about one of the families speaking about the character of their son/brother...but nothing from any family saying what you mentioned here. Here are some statements made by the families...
"I don't know what the lady in the restaurant heard or assumed. She must have had some kind of prejudice," Javed Chaudhary said from his home in Kansas City, Mo. "My son was born and raised here. I feel like we don't have freedom here anymore. Anybody can call anybody to make any kind of accusation. And the authorities treat you like you are a criminal."
"My brother doesn't joke about these matters," she said, her voice at times shaking with anger. "A lot of Muslims suffered in 9/11."
Of course, they may have said it, and I could be wrong. Let me know if I am.
And I did hear on the radio that Eunice Stone, the lady who made the accusations, was on the O'Reilly factor tonight...people trying to get 15 min. of fame isn't any surprise...whether your muslim or white.
Maybe now, since they know that America sucks, theyll go back to their homeland.
According to authorities, one is a U.S. native, another a naturalized citizen and the third has a valid visa.
Apparently, the fact that they're of Middle Eastern descent has you convinced that they hate America. Based on no proof. One persons word against anothers...apparently that's enough to justify statements of deportation.
These are guys who are supposedly studying to be medical doctors here in the US...
Supposedly? The authories say that it is a valid claim. Do you think they're lying? What proof do you have that they are? According to everything I've seen and heard, it's a legitimate claim that they are in med school. So why the "supposedly"?
do u want a guy who cant figure out that if he makes a terrorist threat he will be treated like a terrorist, asking you to turn and cough? i dont.
Okey, now you're saying that he just made a threat and was treated correctly, rather than your prior insinuations that he's almost definitely a terrorist.
I think your post went a bit to far in accusing these 3 men of being terrorists. I understand it's 9/13, one year after September 11th...but maybe a bit of better judgement next time before you make incredibly overreactions that make me sick to my stomach with thoughts of ignorance and racism. I give you the benefit of the doubt that it was an overreaction.
Again, I could be wrong, but according to authorities, I'm not...maybe before accusing people of being enemies of t

0o0o we need to make a separate thread for this, in any case...
i believe theres only one way to solve the problem, ever see "the siege"? thats what we gotta do, no more screwing around. round them all up and then mass deportation. it sounds harsh i know, and it is. i'd hate to see it, but it may have to be done. i understand this wouldn't make things 100% safe, but the chances of anouther attack would be cut down drasticly.
its like how if you are caught with someone who has weed, you still get in trouble for it. sure you didnt have it, and you may not have known about it, but you still get charged (in some states). thats the way this may end up. screw special interest, people are too soft nowadays. it may make the US look terrible, but we have to protect ourselves.

It makes me incredibly upset and sad that all of you jumped to the conclusion that this was true, and automatically believe these people are guilty until proven innocent. It's disgusting, and you're all wrong.

I think you had the benefit of hearing the story on the news after the smoke cleared. This story broke at about 8:00AM and seemed to change every hour all day. Before noon it looked like this was the real thing (bomb sniffing dogs indicated something was in the car, items in the car being detonated, etc.) People were just posting their views as the story was breaking. By 10:30PM or so you had the final story (although I'm sure it will change some more).

Am I offended by the comments made here about the 3 people detained at the time?Absolutely not. I take more offense to your statements accusing members on this board being racist. I think we all assumed that Ms. Stone's comments were true; we couldn't conceive that someone would actually make something like that up.

Please use the quote mechanism to show me where i said he was almost definately a terrorist, Johnny Over-reactor. Although, now that u mention it, his "alleged" actions did terrorize us, didnt they? Do you think they're lying? What proof do you have that they are? According to everything I've seen and heard...
What proof do u have that theyre not? A different news broadcast later that day? Ok, but since we're not them, we cant know, can we? Just cause youre of a different opinion than I am, doesnt make you right. Granted, youre "info" is more up to date than ours was when we posted, but does that make us evil racists? Hell, i remember thinking OJ was guilty until the news later that day told me he wasnt. Listen, it is entirely possible that the "white lady", as u call her, is lying, and that she is the terrorist who caused this whole scare. BUT, every authority interviewed yesterday (i have yet to watch tv today) said she was credible. , but the 20th hi-jacker has been arrested by US and Pakistan militarys and a terroist cell has been raided in Buffalo

My problem is with everyone here who blindly agreed with one another that these people were guilty until proven innocent. Middle Eastern? Check. Terrorists? Yep.
Ya gotta love that sort of blind ignorance.
Wow. He's right. How could you people jump to such conclusions??? Has there ever been any sort of terrorist attack in the past pulled of entirely by people of Arab decent or "appearance"? I sat absoloutly not, You have no reason to assume 3 arabs making coments about a huge terroist attack being planned, would be true. It was a big joke! Aint it funny???

Sure I had the benefit of hearing the full story. But the concept of waiting for all the facts to come out seemed to have been lost on others in this post. I agree, the information I heard wasn't readily available to others who posted here.
But that's not the point of why I was angered by what I read. I was angered because there seemed to be a blind agreement that it must be true. There was no doubt, apparently, that maybe we should all hear the whole story, and get a full understanding of what may have been happening. Assuming things simply because the people were middle eastern and because a lady made an accusation.I find that to be a bit of an over reaction, and again, last time I checked, people were innocent until there was proof they were guilty.
Am I offended by the comments made here about the 3 people detained at the time?Absolutely not. I take more offense to your statements accusing members on this board being racist. I think we all assumed that Ms. Stone's comments were true: we couldn't conceive that someone would actually make something like that up.
I believe that I stated that I myself thought that what was posted was an over reaction. But some statements sure did come off as being judgemental and even unwilling to believe that the Middle Easterner's could actually not be guilty. No one seemed to consider the thought that they might not be guilty of having pulled that sort of prank.
You say you assumed Ms. Stone's comments were true.do you think that in a country filled with hundreds of millions of people, that all of them tell the truth? Do you think that there are no people who have racist feelings and/or ideologies that motivate lying? Do you automatically believe everything people say? I think that there are plenty of reasons to doubt what a random person would say. Until there are others who come forward who were there and corroborate her story, it's they said, she said. Given that fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find either side lying.
The fact that everyone automatically assumed that she was telling the truth.without hearing anything definite or substantially proven fact from the news reports, or hearing their side of the story, is what bothers me. Having thoughts that the middle eastern men may be innocent was never assumed.
And I always thought that people were presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Not the other way around.
Please use the quote mechanism to show me where i said he was almost definately a terrorist, Johnny Over-reactor.
You're absolutely right, and you didn't say that anywhere. I assumed it, and I was wrong, so I apologize. You are right, in that I sometimes over react, but I get very angry when I see people making pre-judgements on people without getting both sides of an event like this. But again, I was wrong to say that.
However, the tone of your post, and statements there, gave the definite impression that you had made your decision without hearing both sides of the story, and that's a major issue I have with it.
Although, now that u mention it, his "alleged" actions did terrorize us, didnt they?
I absolutely agree that they did. But again, WE DON'T KNOW WHOSE TELLING THE TRUTH YET. That seems to be a major issue here, don't you think?
What proof do u have that theyre not? A different news broadcast later that day?
I don't have any proof that they're not, and I don't have any proof that they are. THAT'S THE POINT! NONE OF US DO! So before making sweeping statements and a

MoJo, I absolutely agree! Making statements like that it wrong, and they should be fined/punished for all the time and money spent to apprehend them.
The police did absolutely the right thing here, and should be commended for how they did it. According to the 3 men, they were treated very well and professionally by the police, and they even said that they police/FBI were only doing their jobs, and should be commended for it.
I absolutely agree that they're idiots for doing sometihng like that and causing a panic...it's incredibly dangerous to do something like that.
That all being said, we don't know(yet)if they really did make those statements! Until more people step forward agreeing with Eunice Stone, or until they admit it, we don't know what happened.
And if Ms. Stone is lying, she should be fined/punished as well for the same crimes of starting a panic and whatnot.

Sunny, I think you're being a bit sensative about this, but if you look at what really happened, it wasn't such a big deal.
1. First we have the reality of a large number of terrorist attacks being committed by Arabs.
2. They were reported as making allusions on 9/11 about a future terrorist attack on 9/13.
3. The woman who heard them, got involved and reported them as she should have. Imagine if she hadn't and there was an attack on 9/13! She would be an accessory. I'm glad she got involved as she could have saved thousands of lives.
4. If they were terrorists, they should have been summarily executed. HOWEVER, the cops etc looked into it and concluded they were no threat and they were released.
6. That's the end of the story. A woman heard something suspicious, she reported it, the authorities investigated it and found it to be unfounded. (I still think they should be punished severely if they did make those threats - the visa should be revoked, and the others prosecuted under the false terror report statutes).

ChristheCop, johnnywad, obviously you choose not to even attempt to have a normal discussion about this, because you've ignored most of what I've said and chose instead to make inaccurate comparisons under completely different situations.
So it's all pointless, but I do have some final comments.
I never said I was all knowing. And I did say that I was giving people the benefit of the doubt that it was an overreaction, so maybe you should actually read what I said, instead of just accusing me of trying to sound superior. But I guess that's easier than having a debate/discussion about something
But if it makes you feel better, do pretend I did say that...and continue to believe that you were right to be prejudiced and judgemental without knowing the facts, if it makes you feel better about yourself. Go for it.
I really just don't care anymore.

HK, my problem isn't about what happened, what the woman did, whether she's lying, or telling the truth.
But saying that, you're assuming she is in turn telling the truth, and that they in turn are not. What do you base that assumption on at this point, when both have been interviewed, and both say the other is lying?
Again, yes, all information was not available at first. But my problem is sweeping statements HERE that condemn those three men as obviously lying, and statements about how they should be deported immediately. There wasn't one iota of a thought that she might be lying, and that this could be untrue.
Jeb Bush, governor of Florida, made a statement yesterday that these men should be fined and punished for what they did because that they played a prank.
BUT THERE'S NO PROOF THAT THEY ACTUALLY DID SAY THIS, BESIDES THIS ONE WOMAN'S WORD!
All of us know to not always believe what we hear from everyone we hear it from. But the governor apparently has decided to believe her and not them. Why?
Why did everyone choose to automatically believe her, and not them? You yourself just did the same thing. After your points you based everything on the idea that she must be telling the truth. IF she was, I absolutely agree with you on everything you said.
But we didn't know then, and we don't know now what truly happened.

Sunny, I'm assuming this has gotten to you simply because based on one person's word, three people were arrested by the FBI and the local police. Looked at a certain way, it seems terrifying and very Big Brother-ish, like this is the USSR 40 years ago...same goes with the idea of millitary tribunals. And I understand that, some of these suspension and skewing of our laws these days are kinda scary...but I think this is one case where things were handled properly. Jokes or not, the guys said some things very senstitive to national security, if they were said at all. The authorities acted promptly, investigated, and the issue was resolved. The men said they weren't treated poorly and the whole thing was done very efficiently. Now, if it comes out these guys said nothing of the sort and the woman was just freaking out because they were darker than her, well, that's a little sad. I just get frustrated when threads like this bring up ideas of deporting ALL Arabs. And based on a plan in a shitty Bruce Willis flick no less...

SUNNY - I said "IF they did make those threats - the visa should be revoked, and the others prosecuted under the false terror report statutes."
I wasn't there and don't know if the threats were made. It is certainly possible that the woman was lying. However, I'd rather that cops investigate every report and detain a few innocent people for a few hours, than let a real terrorist get away and kill more people.
It's unfortunate, but that's the reality of the world we live in.
You also agreed that the situation was handled as it should have been. A report was made, the cops investigated found no threat and let the suspects go.
As much as it pains me to say it I agree with governor Bush that if they did indeed say these things even in jest or as a prank, they should be severely punished.

Which means...what? That's such a vague answer (Could mean anything from a ticket to a lecture to a spanking to losing a finger) it's pretty much a cop-out...

All I know is that if another terrorist attack occurs, it will only get worse. It will not progress to the level of the bombings in Israel. At some point Arab Americans will leave on their own accord due to safety concerns. So they should be looking out for terrorist acivity too, as they (those not associated or linked to the terrorist) have a much better chance to hear (language barrier) and stumble upon possible problems due to the inner circle of their small communities such as in Paramus, NJ. I by no means am a racist, but if it comes to a situation like in the middle east, drastic measures must be taken. And unfortunately, many innocent people will suffer, but is that a price we are willing to pay?

They already do...my CIA dad has hinted that a good number of their tips, good or not, about who to check out come from informants within the Arab-American community...ear to the ground, that sort of thing...

my CIA dad
Good to hear, but perhaps you should keep you're "Top Secret" documents in the vault? I smell a sitcom "My CIA Dad" on the family network, ABC. Kill "The Job" and bring back John Ritter?

how are they screwed the Med school said they will gladly help them out with transfering to another school. What ever consciquence comes from this will be their own fault. Dont be surprised in the near future to see them in the headlines again, suing the school for kicking them out

As I noted above "severely punished" means revocation of the visa for the "student" and criminal prosecution for all of them

While flipping around, I saw these 3 guys on Larry King. They said that they will absolutely not sue, so let's see if they hold to their word.
They also said the med school didn't kick them out..they're still registered and could be transferred somewhere else for hospital training, but they said they didn't want to go. One of them mentioned that they understood why the med school did what they did, but that the school has also supported the 3 men also.
Eunice Stone was apparently in the hospital, and just got out for some chest pains or something along those lines.
Oh, and Larry King is annoying.
