As long as we are bashing Connecticut, Lets mention Hartford, capital of our nations insurance industry, and Watertown, where the mayor
was recently arrested for having sex with a minor. Here in my home state of New Jersey most of the cities....and cities is a big word for some of them....are dying shitholes. Trenton and Camden standing out as the possibly the worst though here in the north, Paterson is pretty bad in oh so many ways. Since Florida got a couple of mentions above I would have to say that I have yet to be in a city in Florida where I would like to spend more than the time it takes to pinch a loaf.
Finally, to give some Balance to the list, 3 cities I like that I have recently discovered are Charleston, S.C., Portsmouth, N.H., and Portland, Me. (All have good local beers.)

Erie, PA. They only get about 2 weeks of sun per year, hence the nickname Dreary Erie. Suicide rate actually goes up significantly during the winter.

Also a vote for Kalamazoo, Michigan. The highlight of my trip was investigating a local paper mill that dumped waste into a creek for about 30 years.

And I agree with tomhitch: Charleston, SC is nice. Great food, drink and history. Spend every Thanksgiving on Kiawah Island, about 20 minutes away.

Sweet 201 mentioned Detroit. When I was there as a kid it wasn't too bad, but sweet Jesus, I flew over it a few years ago and it still looked like a bombed out mess from the riots in the 60's. Block after block of burned out abandoned buildings. In New York at least they bulldozed the South Bronx after it got like that, and put up townhouses and community gardens. In Detroit, Nothing.

I couldnt agree more...LA sucks ass..noone walks anywhere,the sidewalks are always empty because every single person in LA drives. There is sooo much traffic!!!...I also found the people and the places to be very scummy. Being there for 5 days really made me appreciate NYC
