My dad had a bag of old liquor that some guy gave him. So swiped some old French Cognac from it before he poured it all out. He's not a drinker. No one in my family is, and it SUCKS! They don't allow it in the house!
Anyway, I opened the bottle, took a small test sip, and HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!! THE BURNING! THE BURNING! It tastes like SHIT! So I quickly went to get some water.
I thought that fine liquor aged. But this shit SUCKED. I poured it out, and am still burping up a strange taste.
What of it?

Im going to kill myself OR DIE TRYING!
Good question -- I have a bottle of Beam that's been sitting in my cupboard for 5 years. I'm afraid to try it.
And nothing is as bad as skunked beer.

Yea, it sounds pretty wussy, but I KNOW what alcohol is supposed to taste like. I enjoy Dewars, Jack Daniels and the like.
And this stuff was Turpentine.

NJDMMOE - A "bag" of old liquor? Perhaps that's the problem.
Wine and liquor can go bad depending on the ingrediants and how it was made. Basically there are two types of processes:
1. Brewed liquor
2. Distilled liquor.
Brewed liquor is usually made from fermented fruit or grain. Because their alcoholic content is relatively low, these beverages can go bad quickly, but they are prized by some for their fresh taste and aroma.
Distilled liquor is made by heating fermented wine and collecting the vapor. The alcohol content is relatively high and the resulting wine does not go bad.

The longer it sits, the harder it kicks you in the kahunas when you try it. That's the way I see it.
Are you gonna bark all day, little doggie. Or are you gonna bite?

If it wasn't wine, it shouldn't have gone bad. Sure you're parents didn't doctor it to catch you?

OK, I still have the bottle.
It says MARTELL on it. The label is printed in Blue ink. It's a French Cognac. Below the crest of the company, it reads: " Contents are guarenteed pure Grape Brandy distilled in Pot Stilla rom Wine products exclusively in the Cognac district of France."
There is no date.
So from what you all have said,it sounds like it wouldn't have killed me, but DID get really strong over time.
Oh, and I don't think my parents tried to get me with anything. I broke the metal seal when I openend it.
Oh, there you go. It has one of those "METAL RING" type seals on the top, so it can't be TOO old, right? I mean, how long have they been around?
I guess I just want to make sure I didn't pour out a $500 bottle of anything.

NJDMMOE - AHA, just as I suspected. The offending wine was French!

Indeed. The only good thing to come out of France was their cooking. They do that very well.
Other than that, bomb the place.

Nah. Remember how DeNiro thought Stiller was a pothead in "Meet The Parents"?

all I know is if you let cold beer get warm, and then make it cold again, throw it away...
it goes flat...
maybe it's in my mind but it sure tastes that way and that's what i do...
if i won't drink it then i do not want to give it to anyone else...
