yesterday me and shelle were eating at chilis and we were making fun of people, as always. our waitress came over and like a good chink asked if shelle wanted an more Dr Pepper. i made a lil joke just before she came over and we started busting out laughing. shelle said yes and continued to laugh...and then this waitress starts laughing like she knew what the hell we were talking about.

why the hell do you laugh at things you dont even know what youre laughing at???

I think people do this because they feel they are "one of the crowd" or "in with the group". She just wanted to feel accepted. I knew a guy once who had a very high position in management in his company. One of the techniques he was taught to use was to "mirror people", i.e., to kind of do what the other person is doing. It is a very effective sales tool (and is actually taught to some sales people) because people trust and feel comfortable around others that they feel are similar to them. I know he was an Italian in a practically all Japanese company.

but i have this problem where someone will say something funny or something and we'll start laughing and i'll stop but then someone else will just start laughing so i'll start laughing again and it just goes on until i forget what i was originally laughing at. for some reason people laughing makes me laugh.
