View Full Version : Is It True That Everyone Dreams?
I've always heard that we all dream while we sleep, but don't always remember them.
I, for one, never remember my dreams. I'm starting to doubt I dream at all. Is it a proven scientific fact that we all dream? If so, why don't I ever recall them?

I heard if you wake up too fast is harder to recall the dream.

How strange this post was made. For the last few days I have been dreaming some WEIRD shit. And remembering them.
I also dream in color, does anyone else do that?

I don't remember all my dreams. The ones I do remember were in color.
The scariest dream I had was a nuclear bomb going off right outside my window at work.
The funniest dream I had was when I was stoned off my ass -- I was playing basketball with the Three Stooges.

I only remember my dreams if I wake up earlier than I want to...if I just ease into being awake, the dream just slips away and I don't remember it at all...

Everyone dreams. Dreams only occur in a stage of sleep called REM sleep. Studies have shown that those deprived of REM sleep (and thereby not allowed to dream) develop psychoses.

So that explains it!

I dreamt last night I was in an old, ww2-era prison camp (NOT a concentration camp, we were like hostages) and we could all escape if we had to, but I couldn't get anyone else to go with me...I woke up all tense and frustrated...

Are you sure you weren't just watching Hogan's Heros on TVLand as you were nodding off? <P>

Pretty sure, because when I went to use the radio, I ended up scalding myself with actual coffee. I think my fellow hostages were all French. Bah.

sometimes i'll have a really good dream and then wake up in the middle of it, and then after i fall back to sleep it either continues on or i dream the same thing over.
the worst dreams are when i wake up hysterically crying or when i dream i'm falling

I can only remember bits and peices of my dreams , and I can remember just about 5 dreams a week. Heres another question for Horde King branching off of this thread: Why do some people dream in Black and White? I also know of some people that dream in color but they have no sound. Why is that?

Black and white? I could swear all my dreams are in color...or do we just subtitute the color after the fact?

I actually had a dream with GVAC in it. I was sitting at some outdoor table.. the kind with the umbrella. And GVAC walked up and I said, "Hi" and shook his hand. That was the extent of it. I think I was in Hawaii.

I think everyone does dream but most of the time you can't remember it. I normally can remeber 1 dream a week that is really clear. A lot of times I purposly lay in my bed for an hour thinking about what i want to dream about and about 10% of the time it works and i'm in heaven. I basically then have 2 worlds and it really become a DREAM.

Belive it or not , When mine goes back I actually get about 5 mins. (dream time) of the previous segment. Sort of like on to be continued sitcoms where they show the last couple mins. of the previous show. Kinda weird now that I think about it.

COZMOKRAMER - Sleep lab studies have shown that most dreams are in color, although people frequently do not supply color information unless specifically asked for it. It is likely that color information is often simply forgotten, especially if the dreamer doesn't think the dimension of color is particularly important, anyway. Memory of specific aspects of dreams usually degrades very rapidly after awakening. If the dreamer does not make note of color information right away, it just evaporates, and is no longer accessible.

HordeKing - That means that since the color isnt rememberd sometimes they think that the dream was in black and white right? Well I find it wierd that when they remember something specific like a dream how they can actually change the dream without thinking to black and white from color. Its akward that people really add on to their original dream because its not "necessary" to them.

COZMO - Dreams are pretty weird and fascinating and are hard to understand in terms of anything but Freud's model of the unconscious, preconsious and conscious and in terms of REM sleep, the 4 stages or depths of sleep and the Alpha waves produced during some types of sleep.
The dreams are in color but to some people the color isn't the important part of the dream, it's the imagry or symbolisms, or the bringing the preconscioius into the conscious.
People who are very visually oriented, like artists seem to remember the colors of their dreams moreso than people who are not. I guess they attribute some kind of meaning to the colors. On the other hand, I don't recall ever NOT dreaming in color and my parents wouldn't even get a damn color TV until I was married. (That's practically child abuse!)
