Billy in his role as punching bag is not as funny as Al was . But that is largly because I sort of liked Billy, despite everything....underneath I think he is probably a pretty decent fellow--if more than a little messed up. Al's personality, at least as it came through on the air, was one that I found really dislikeable. So when they abused him I felt no guilt at enjoying it. Frankly Al would have been intolerable if the show had not used his air time almost exlusively in making him the butt of the humor. And I would like to add the impetus for most of the abuse/humor was afforded by the seemingly endless obnoxious aspects of his character that Al was so ready to reveal to R and F and the listeners.

Believe me, I'd love it for Al to come back.. maybe then I could use my board name on instant feedbacks again, but I always got the feeling that Ron resented WNEW for giving them Al.
