I do a lot of travelling around the tri-state area for business and find that there are certain regions that have certain foods that seem to be indigenous to that particular region and nowhere else.

Here's my question: In Northern New Jersey I see signs for "Texas Wieners" all the time. (insert obvious joke here). But I never seen them advertised anywhere outside Northern New Jersey. Are they just hot dogs? Or something more?

I've found the answer to my own question...
Each is a deep-fried pup with rugged skin nestled in a too-short bun topped with mustard, onion, and spicy/sweet beef-chili sauce.

GIVE ME 30!!!!

I think Texas Weiners are a Jersey invention, to be honest. They're also one of the greatest gifts God ever gave to man.

2 all the way, side of fries!

They're just dogs. Fried, not boiled...try a Callahan's in Ft. Lee or Little Ferry for griddle-fried dogs...everything else is dirty-water boiled. The "Texas-weiner" type places are all the same...fried instead of boiled...orange drink goes best with a fried dog!

the hot grill is in clifton which is the armpit of new jersey.
avoid it.
try the anthony wayne, hank's franks or the hot dog house.
even a roadside truck is better than the hot grill.

Disco Fries are the greatest invention. They only exist in the NY Metro area. I don't know why. I get mine from the Six Brother's Diner in Little Falls off of Rt 46. Been eating them since college. <P>

RUT'S HUT!

Home of the "Cremator" dog.
Hot Dogs at this culinary delite of an establishment are served/ordered by degree of "burntness" from the deep fryer.
*** Ralphy Fact***
Their oil in the deep fryer is older than the oil found in the La Braia(?) tar pits.

Once again I agree with NJDMM...the guys a genius. F-ing Rut's Huts rule. Order two dogs with cheese.Side of fries with gravy and cheese. My god, my arteries are hardening right now just thinking about it.

Sleep all day, party all night and live forever...what's wrong with that?

Clixie's stinks. It's the worst do not go there. Callahan's on the other hand? ::MUAH:: Magnifique! If you want real Jersey goodness hit Falls View, the one in Pequannock, not Haskell or out on 46.
Oftimes, my friend speaks of a place in Fort Lee, Hyram's I believe is its name. It's somewhere in the Lemoine Ave. vicinity. He says he went there years ago, but he thinks it's still open. I work in Leonia, so I try and find it once a week, and, as of yet, have had no luck. It's probaly been changed to Hai-Lam's by now. He says the dogs are great, so my quest will continue until I find an end. Does anyone know of such a place?

Oftimes, my friend speaks of a place in Fort Lee, Hyram's I believe is its name.

It's across the street from Callahan's if I remember correctly.(Hai-Lam's...dats a goood one!).

All of these Hot Dog establishments mentioned here are stationary buildings. If it's the "mobile" type of culinary dog delites you like, try JJ'S on Bloomfield Ave in Newark(the good section... HA Ha).Not really a Texas Weiner, but the hottest Chile Dog you ever ate!Hours I believe are from about 9 PM to 5AM....and usually a line to order!
