HK-
I just got off the phone with a woman in my office who was asking me how to fill out a corrective time card. I told her the procedure which is to cross out and correct all of your mistakes, initial them, and then re-sign the time card in red ink. She is Korean American and told me that in Asian culture you absolutely can not sign your name in red ink, and was extremely adamant about it and was very worried how she was going to fix her timecard. She is a very rational person, so this came out of left field.
Have you ever heard of this?

All I know is that DJ Krush puts out his records with Red Ink Records, and he's Asian.

I found it myself.
This is from a website answering questions teachers may have about dealing with Cultural differences.
* In Korean culture, red ink symbolizes death and writing a
person's name in red indicates that they will die soon.

Every culture (including ours) has it's own idiocyncricies that we should strive to be aware of. This is called cultural competence.
For example, in the Asian population, it is considered a sign of disrespect to look into an authority figure's eyes. If we didn't know this, we'd process their failure to make eye contact in terms of our own culture and conclude that they're either lying or ashamed or timid. They're just showing respect.
Convesely if an American went to Japan and made eye contact with everyone she spoke to she'd be considered an awfully rude and obnoxious person. Those who understand the American culture would know that the eye contact is not meant to be disrespectful but rather to show interest and attention.
Of course there are many more examples, but I always liked they eye contact one b/c it's the easiest to explain.
