http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=578&e=2&cid=578&u=/nm/20020927/ts_nm/group_protests_dc I can't believe this! they were peaceful protesters and the police arrested every single one of them, carted them off in buses like the sheep they wished they would behave like.

this is an absolute fucking outrage. citizens have a right and a responcibility to stand up for what they believe in, that's the sprit of america, not blindly following your leaders and flying a flag because its trendy. they should not be treated worse than common criminals for exorcising their most precious of rights.

a patriot fights the good fight, and don't fuckin forget it!!! He doesn't need guns, he doesn't need bombs. A patriot fights with the strength of his convictions.

Hippie, I also believe in our right to gather and protest peacefully and will defend a person's right to do so.

But if protesters decide to walk down the middle of a busy street on a friday afternoon when I am trying to drive home without being delayed 3 hours - I'm gonna mow them down.

I wussed out and ran. Well, walked very fast. A friend called me on my cell and said how people were getting snatched left and right and getting pepper sprayed...I saw cops moving towards us, so I just pushed to the edge of the crowd, walked very quickly with my hands up and open, hit the Metro and didn't look back...don't want to spend my weekend in jail...

Sure they had a right to protest. However, they did not have a permit to parade and they had no right to try and block traffic. The Police Chief stated that those who did so would be arrested.

Freedom of assembly does not give you the right to smash windows and destroy property. Some of these clowns glued locks in the gates to Metro stations and lit burning tires in the middle of roads -- both in an attempt to impede access into the city during morning rush hour.

And if you feel strongly enough to protest, why mask your face with a bandana?

Like I said in the other thread, AJ, the pricks that ended up on TV and got arrested represent the minority of the protestors that show up for these events. The rest of us loathe them even more than the rest of you. They degrade and tear down what little we might get heard in the first place. Pricks.

The protestors who start the trouble are the ones who need to be arrested. I wish a few idiots did not ruin a potentially powerful and ligit group of Americans.

I also think the cops in DC and NY are not going to take any shit from people who want to taunt them.

Didn't a group of the protestors basically turn into a frat party and break windows and get some chicks to take off their clothes? What ever happened to the days of discourse and speeches. MLK Jr must be rolling over in his grave.

I briefly saw the news tonight after work. There was a group of protesters who stripped down to their underwear in front of the Gap down the street from me to symbolize that they prefer to wear nothing than wear clothes made in sweatshops.

It was just a funky vibe from the second I got there. It was miserable weather, rainy and humid, and nobody was happy. Then right off the bat, you have these 'tards acting like they're fucking street performers. I stayed on the edges most of the morning just because of them, because something was bound to go down.

Then rat them out to the police. Police will be happy, rallies will be more peaceful, more opinions heard....

But how can I rat them out? I don't know these people...they keep in their own little circles, and the rest of us are just as suprised when a window smashes or there's suddenly a group of naked people singing songs at the cops.

Bring a digital camera to the rallies. Or a regular camera. Try and get some faces because they are showing up at these events.

aj, no offense, but you've never been to a modern protest, have you?

the bandanas are supposed to be soaked in apple vinegar and only worn once the police bring out the pepper gas (it offers a little defense, though i've seen cops rip them and goggles away and spray directly into someone's eyes) the others who wear the black bandanas are part of a sect known as the "black bloc" who have caused trouble in the past. the police know this, but they use it as an excuse to beat down on everyone.

Yes they did have a permit. everything was done by the book.

Not everything. At least 50% of those arrested deserved to be arrested. I'm infinitely disapointed with how the protests turned out.

All must die, 'cept for me, a supermodel, Bill Gates and his money/software and Michael Dell and his money/hardware. We will then remake mankind into a perfect society who will follow my laws, one will include that all must be atheist, and all must pay taxes in sexual favor form. All who disobey will be pelted by my beebee gun SWAT team.

How can it be a perfect society if Bill Gates is one of the founders? He'd just steal the best parts of other societies, and then just shrug sheepishly when they all crash on top of each other.
