I'll preface everything I say by saying I don't buy the Bible. But you probably knew that about me already. Anyway..

Today when we see a magician or illusionist, we think "Oh isn't that cute. Outta my face Copperfag."

But back in Jesus' time BEFORE widespread entertainment, maybe he was really GOOD at it! And the people we awestruck by these gags he pulled.

I mean, it's obvious he was very well spoken, and his message was one that some people wanted to eccept. So I think that some of these miracles might hae been well planned "tricks." You don't think there was at least ONE other Jew in the area they could have used as a body double in some circumstances? Just look at all the asswipes they use for Saddam's body doubles.

Just a thought. Comments? Damnations?

I can see why some people don't buy the whole bible thing. Many of the books that were written are not even included in the buble in it's form as we see it today. So even the ones that are in there are a selection of writtings that are actually icomplete.

I don't see why you can't believe the Bible isn't real and yet believe that Jesus was a real person. Just because you think he existed, you don't necessarily have to believe he was the son of god, and THAT is the big leap of faith.

The Bible could be an account of events, or it could be a collection of myths and stories passed down through the generations. Without the benefit of a time machine, we'll probably never find out.

Calming stormy seas in front of his disciples, walking on water, asking Thomas to put his fingers in the crucifixation holes in his hands after he came back in person from dying, bringing a dead man (who was in the tomb for 3 days whose family was well aware he died) out of that tomb alive, making blind men see, curing paralyzed individuals. I hardly believe that families who knew these people who were blind, paralyzed, insane, some even dead, would consider these cures illusions.

These were just a <u>few</u> miracles He performed. He is still performing miracles among many people needing help even today.

You can argue until you are blue in the face about religion. It is not based on science - it is based on faith - a gift from God. (Pray for it, you will get it.)

JACKIE - You guys all know how I feel about this already. The bible is a complete man made constuct, only with more hatred and sacrifices and guilt complexes. As myths go, you're better off sticking to Aesop's Fables.

The various parts of the New Testemant were written up to 96 years after this guy bit the big one.

But that's assuming he ever existed. If he did, he was just an ordinary joe, who was exploited for millenium after his death to fill the coffers of the church.

If he did exist however, he must have had Charisma of 20 (but with a -5 penalty for Romans)

There is new evidence on scrolls collected that documents pertaining the life of Jesus were written only about 10 years after his death.

As I mentioned before faith is a gift from God. Also, as mentioned I am sure the families of those members cured by him from insanity, blindness, leprosy, being paralyzed, even one being dead for 3 days weren't illusioned. They knew the histories of these individuals and of their being permanently cured.

Hordeking I have known people to have died and came back and have spoken of after life. These people had no reason to lie, and their experiences have changed them profoundly into better human beings. I've no doubt that they feel that they saw what they think they did. If they were to better educate themselves about the rapid degeneration of both the occular nerve and brain activity upon death, they would learn of the rational scientific explanation for their hallucinations. I feel it's sad that so many are willing to live a life believing that the ultimate authroity is not vested in oneself. Worse, they let a silly bunch of fairy tales control their behavior.

With some notable but extremely rare exceptions religious beliefs are bad for the individual, for the family, for society, for nations and the world and for the concept of human dignity and freedom. Hopefully as our knowledge continues to advance we'll evolve beyond the need to rely on our own best-sellers to affirm our existence.
