I was wondering if you can have any control over your night time dreams like a director of a movie. After all, you have control over your daydreams, you can be who you want to be, choose the location, the people in the dream and etc. Can it be done the same way in the REM sleep as well? Or is it because your night dreams are more from your sub-conscience that part of your the mind that can't controled? But if you can direct your dreams do you have to concentrate very hard or meditiate before you go to sleep. I have always be interested in it.

It's weird with me. Usually I can completely control me and sometimes I can control parts of my dreams. But I dream So vividly that it is rather overwelmig. I Never can control my whole dream. And sometimes I don't remember the dream but I wake up with heart racing... tears.. or Bruses and cuts. For a while I thought I might be sleep Walking. Or maybe it was my cat.

I have 1 distinct episode where I did - I remember saying "hey I'm dreaming" and was able to then fly - after a while it turned into a nightmare so I willed myself awake.

I have to remember to try that.

Those are the best kind. That sad thing is that you wake up at the climax.

I read some were that you only remember 25% of the dreams you actually have .. that you have multipule dreams though out the night.

I think you're refering to "lucid dreaming," i.e. knowing that you're dreaming while you're sleeping.
Some people can supposedly control the content of their dreams during the lucid dreaming. If it's true (and I don't know enough about it to give an informed opinon) it would be fantastic. Imagine facing down your demons, terrors and nightmares in a dream world, where physics and rules don't apply and you cannot get hurt. Sounds like a fantastic theraputic device.
The fact that such a potentially valuable technique isn't widely used makes me wonder as to the validity of the claim. However, it's possible that only certain people are capable of lucid dreaming and it is not possible to learn.

the way that i learned was through meditation. when you meditate, you slip into a kinda "dreamlike state" but your consciousness is still aware. after enough practice, yoou can control it as if it was a conscious thought

Some people can supposedly control the content of their dreams during the lucid dreaming.
I remember an episode of the Real Ghostbusters when they was fighting the Sandman, they said it you tell yourself that your dreaming then you can take control of the dream.

I learned when I was a kid. I saw Nightmare on Elm Street 2. And I had a dream that Freddy was after me and I couldn't run fast. Then I realized, hey, it's a dream. So I kicked his ass.

About 10% of the time i can do it. I think really hard about what i want to dream about wihlie laying in bed and sometimes it comes true. Those are some great dreams when you can control them. I have another question though, i fell asleep while watching tv and it was some show about movies. I have a distinct memory of this dream, it involved Dr. Lector from the silence of the lambs. And what i was thinking was when i feel asleep it was a commercial and on next was about the new red dragon movie. So is it possible to dream about whats going on around you while you're sleeping?

If lucid dreaming is real, then you're controlling the reality of your environment during the dream. You can fly and have x-ray vision etc, but while you experience a feeling like flying, you're also aware it's not real. It's annalagous in some ways to phantom limb pain, which by the way is considered a hallucination.

when I was little I used to have really bad nightmares everynight, sometimes I was able to control them a little. But I do know that if I would just squeeze my eyelids together real hard I would wake up.. I can't do that anymore either.

I did it! Last night I had a dream and I was able to take control of it. I just told myself it was a dream, and I took control of it. I made a apple appear, made out with Tiffany Amber Thiessen and was able to fly. it was the best. I going to try it again tonight.
