what is it with Pro Athletes and surgery????

It seems lately that every time an athlete breaks something they are going into surgery the next day... for instance Sprewell broke some bone in his hand and now is going have surgery.. most of these injuries don't require it.. i mean if it was you or i with this break surgery would never even be brought up bya doctor?? does this seem strange to anyone else..

I broke almost every toe & finger while playing High School baseball & football...most of the fingers twice (I was a really bad offensive lineman). I never did anything more than put them in a splint for a couple of days, or buddy tape them to the next finger & play on. But, then again, I sucked & never had a chance of playing beyond High School.
