I got to watch the BOP pilot this morning and I thought the show was pretty enjoyable. (No spoilers here, I promise) It's a fairly solid action show that could grow to be a don't miss by season's end. The show not only sets up the characters, but an interesting season long storyline.

Unfortunately, they Dawson Creeked it up a bit with the pop music (Michelle Branch is played twice) and most of the people are pretty people, like all the WB dramas.

I thought Sherilyn Fenn was excellent as Harleen Quinzell and am disappointed she won't be on the show. Should be interesting to see if Mia Sara is as good. And some shots will be changed to incorporate the new clocktower sets used for future episodes.

But I have to say my favorite moment is when the characters are talking and you can see the backs of the computers, and all the wires are conspicuously absent. Oracle must have superpowers to use computers without power cables.

I saw this show last week and did not like it at all, but they did follow the story/time line of events pretty accurately. The whole "dawson creekish" thing threw me for a loop and didnt seem to fit. I was expecting something a bit more dark i guess. Maybe another look is necessary, it can only improve.

I don't like the fact that the Huntress's parentage is.

They did a spin on Black Canary's character too.

Oracle is pretty hot though (Dina Meyer). I'd make her leave that Batgirl outfit on though. :-)

That was my only beef with the show.

No, this was a pilot. Things tend to change between pilot and series.

I heard the same. The WB has a formula they stick to and it comes from Dawsons creek. The network really aims at een but I think mainly young women. It's sad too cause the charactors are really good. Smallville is such hit and miss with me.

It's going to bomb like pretty much every network television comic book show...for a very simple reason: Ugly people don't exist in the WB comic book adaptation world. Everyone is really good looking, and good looking people...generally and especially television actors, cannot act. Not to mention the writing usually sucks and becomes formulaic. (Ala Smallville, where every week there's a new villian with a new super power that Clark always defeats while storyline creeps along at a snails pace.)

Being a devout comic book fan myself, I would like to see something on the level of quality given to the Spawn animated series that debuted on HBO. So fucking impressive. THAT had more mood than anything you'll find on Birds of Prey, I assure you.

You might as well start popping in your old recorded episodes of "Viper" and "Mantis".

Well, for the most part, ugly people don't exist in comics. Especially the DC and Marvel ones. Except for the Batman villains. And Harvey Bullock.

And I'm sorry, but "Spawn" was painful for me to watch. Like the worst anime, nothing happened each week except anti-climatic build-up that consisted of Spawn crying about his fate and not having Wanda before in the last two minutes he lashed out and broke someone in half. Too predictable.

Just give me the 90's Batman animated series. It's a thing of beauty.

Of course, the long-rumored animated "Watchmen" mini-series on HBO would be the end-all be-all. But that's just a pipe dream.

It will probably get screwed up. They have already changed the Huntress' costume. WB and DC are following the Marvel formula for failure and altering the characters.

okay, the parentage is off from the start so that pisses me off, they screwed around with Dinah who is a dynasty character in DC, the only thing i like about this pile of crap at all was that the got how oracle was put in a wheelchair perfect. No dialouge just straight and to the point just like it was in the comics. im a big fanboy myself and im happy to to hear that there are others on this board. id love to see more threads on comics here or maybe *dare i dream* a comics forum. id be all for that.

This is terrible. They did the ole Marvel alter the character beyond recognition formula. Didn't they learn from Marvel's mistakes; ie the Fantastic Four and Captain America? I wanted to see the F'ing costume and the Body filling out said costume!!! That is one of the things that made the character !!!!

WOW, did this thing look like Schumacher directed it. That's not a good thing, BTW.

It...wasn't nearly as good as I was hoping it might be, but it's passable. There's really nothing else for me to watch at this timeslot anyway (FUCK West Wing, that show will never get another moment of my time), so maybe I'll give it a shot.

Except that the Huntress character, who the show will likely focus the most on, is UBERFUCKINGANNOYING. To top it all off, she's got zany dialogue during fight scenes. Note to entertainment world: wacky insults work well with Spider-Man, not in the dark mythos of Batman & family.

I dug the Michelle Branch songs, BTW.

Overall, though, this show may be a chore to sit through unless they start downplaying a lot of the crap.

BTW, I'm with Mojo on the Spawn cartoon. Decent animation, and fun fight scenes, but uh....where was the story? Oh wait, I'm forgetting. It's by Todd McFarlane, OF COURSE there's no story. I guess he could have gone by his usual m.o., and just ripped off the hard work of Neil Gaiman.

I remember LOVING "Spawn" when the comic first came out...then around issue ten, Todd let a bunch of guest writers do issues...Gaiman, Alan Moore and Frank Miller, and they were fantastic...then Todd came back, and it smacked me back to reality. I don't think I've ever dropped a series so fast...

And as for changing comic costumes for films and TV, why are people so anal about this? People in tights look stupid. That only works on paper.

This pilot made me want to vomit. Its just what I expected from the WB...corny, 1 dimensional, and predictably unentertaining.

I hope its cancelled in 5 shows.

Fucking dissapointment. When will they give the job to people with talent.

They will never get Batman right until I direct it.
