Sykes says talk at WNEW is finished

In continued fallout from Opie & Anthony's sex stunt in St. Patrick's Cathedral, parent Infinity Broadcasting Corp. is taking advantage of WNEW-FM's firing of the New York shock jocks to drop the FM-talker's format.

The firing has cost Infinity several million dollars in lost advertising, but Opie & Anthony's afternoon show was the only thing working on the troubled station.

Infinity's new CEO, John Sykes, is considering switching to either a lite-FM or alternative-rock format

That just means they won't be all-talk anymore. It's pretty common these days to have an FM with a talk show or two on in the middle of all the music. R&F aren't going anywhere.

Krock is the same thing. It has talk in the morning and then music, many stations do this and I think WNEW knows that Ron and Fez are their biggest attraction. They bring in Money and listeners.

Infinity would be stupid to not have some form of comedy in afternoon drive. Why not take advantage of the Stern audience that just wants to laugh and can get music anytime they want?

Notice how the idiots don't even mention Ron and Fez. RnF work theire asses of for that station and they can't even get acknowledged? Maybe they can come to DC and get the respect they need with the 7-11 time slot and everything.

Does anybody know when the Junks are going to HFS , or its that still a rumor?

trying to be an optimist: god forbid we lose the boys, the entire stock market may rebound. here is my reasoning... <P>
the bandwidth required for syndication underground will be so demanding, that cisco will have to increase shifts for the number of routers and switches that will be required to keep up. worldcom may even come out of bankruptcy because their networks will be in such demand to handle all the traffic. soon, more and more products will be required to keep up with the demand. servers from dell, better speakers from harmon kardon, etc... if we lose the boys, thier sacrifice will pave the way for a stronger america. <P>

R&F aren't going anywhere?

I hate to burt your bubbles, but I can't see a scenario where they *do* stay.

The only thing I can think of is if someone at Infinity is a BIG R&F fan and wants to keep them on to see what they could do with a full staff behind them- doing a real show, not just a call-in show.

But even R&F themselves have talked about job offers they are getting and that they are reaching the point where they will have to accept one.
