H.K.,you may think this is an "Old School" type question but I thought I'd ask you first.After a crook or plain old bad guy unloads a revolver into (TV series)Superman's chest they usually throw the gun at him.

Why does he duck?

Much like golden age green lantern, golden age superman had a weakness for wood. and since the handle of the gun was wood he..... nah..... dumb idea.

For those who aren't familiar with him, Larry Niven is a top notch science fiction writer perhaps most well known for his Ringworld series. Personally, I prefer his collaborative work with Jerry Pournelle. The essay in the link above was from a book called "All the Myriad Ways." The essay is also in the intriguing book of short science fiction stories called "Alien Sex."

RALPHY - The bullets are shot, to no effect. TV Supes just stands there hands on his hips looking smug. Yet he ducks when the gun is thrown. There's a very simple explanation for this. The shots bouncing off Superman's chest are special effects. They didn't really shoot George Reeves, or even a stunt double, b/c they would have had to go through a whole lot of actors if they had). The gun that was tossed however, was a real object and could conceivably cause someone harm. Since George Reeves was indeed NOT really Superman (the secret is out now) he ducked to avoid getting hit and hurt by a real object being thrown at him.

Another thing I notice about the old Superman show is that Clark Kent wore the same grey suit every episode. I can understand Superman wearing his red & blue suit because that is his trademark. But doesn't Clark Kent have a blue or black or brown 3 piece suit he can wear? And one more thing I notice that the only people I see at the Daily Planet is Clark Kent, Lois Lane,Perry White and Jimmy Olsen. Does any other people work and that building?

GREEN LANTERN - The early TV Superman episodes was filmed in the 1950's a time where there was no color TV. (RCA introduced the first model in 1954 but only a handful of people bought one.) I don't even know if the shows were filmed in color.

Reeves may have worn the same gray suit, b/c it looked good on a black and white TV screen. Alternatively, he could have worn many different hued suits but they could have all been rendered grey by the technology of the time.

Regarding your second question, due to severe financial mismanagement by upper management and the fact that every paper sold had one story in it and it was inevitably related to Superman, the Daily Planet only employed Clark Kent, Lois Lane,Perry White and Jimmy Olsen.

The rest of the Planet Building was leased to a small start up company that grew to become Vivid Video.

as you know the gun is being fired but there are no bullets coming out HOWEVER...
the gun is probably made of wood or metal and George Reeves probably got clocked in the face on the 1st Take, and was gunshy ever since...
seriously: my thinking is the guy throwing the gun has to throw it near his head to make the scene look real and George probably doesn't want to get it in the head...

JOHNNY4 - A good theory, but I ran it through the SuperBatPuter and discovered that in the DC mythology, Superman's molecular density is far greater than that of an Earthling. Additionally, particles surrounding superman, such as his costume, are protected by his aura. That's why his costume doesn't rip too easily. (Also the Comics Code doesn't take kindly to nudity, not even Supernudity)

Given his heavier density, he would not shed any contaminating material onto the gun.
