HSC - It's clear that there is a possibility of medicating children and adults who do not need to be medicated. This of course is not limited to psychopharmacuticals, but to all other medications as well. Every time a doctor gives out a prescription for antibiotics for a cold it's an improper (and dangerous) misuse of medication.

However, it is also true that there are many more people who need medications to survive with any semblance of normalcy. This again isn't limited to psyhological problems but to organic problems as well.

Although the possibility for imporperly prescribed medication or overmedication exists, it is far outweighed by the very real and measurable ways in which these medications have a positive impact on people's lives.

I used to take Paxil, but it tore my stomach up. I was never so sick in my life. Now I take Zoloft. The Mike Tyson drug. My savior. My best friend.

There are many different types of drugs within the same class. For reasons we don't quite understand, a drug that works wonderfully for one person, can do nothing for another. That's why different drugs must often be tested in an individual until the right drug, dosage and/or mixture is found.

Additionally, people can take a drug for a long time without side effects but eventually manifest side effects without warning. It's another reason why any psychoactive medication has to be carefully monitored by your doctor.

the real problem is that people are OVER medicating themselves...my dad takeslike 10 pills or something a day...A) his diabetes and B) his bi polar drugs to keep him bearable- hes a miserable bastard if hes not on his meds..but i understand why
