So I could'nt find another thread on this but I love hearing about new bands who either don't get the recognition they deserve or aren't on the radio or MTV or just have not been heard of in the mainstream arena. I love all types of music but my heart really lies in the hardcore/punk/indie scene. I really hate to label but I guess that is what you call it in a nutshell. I check out maybe 5 - 10 new bands each month through either 7"s or label comps and really look for the stuff that just gives me the good feelings in the cockles inside (thanks Denis leary).
I'll keep throwing bands out but I wonder what else all of you are getting into thatmay be interesting to check out. Maybe ot just me but maybe someone else may be like, "Hey, that sounds damn cool!" and go and give the band a check out. i persnally hate it when bands I like get popular because sometimes I don't want to share with the masses. But I would sooner share via person to person because it is so much more personal than MTV or radio to person. If there is already a thread for new bands, let me know.

One of the bands I just totally have to plug this week would be AGAINST ME!. They got this album called "AGAINST ME! is Reinventing Axl Rose" on No Idea records. I picked this up just on word of mouth and it is like a cross between a really drunk Dropkick Murphys and Jawbreaker with some extra sandpaper in the singers throat. I am also listening to the From Autumn To Ashes record "Too Bad You're Beautiful" on Ferret Music. This has a real old school metal feel (ala Maiden & Priest) in the solos and guitar work and a really nice hardcore/thrash mixture throughout the album. Found myself banging my head and screaming along at many points. Songs about all the stuff screamo bands are made of with broken relationships and hearts. Good stuff.

if you like autumn to ashes go check out hopesfall...also very good stuff, some other screamo bands: sky came falling,This Day Forward, On The Might of Princes(everyone must listen to this band at least once) Another Band im really into right now is Black-47 its kinda irish/reggae/funk...weird stuff, but as far as irish stuff goes also go check out Flogging Molly and/or The Sawdoctors. When it comes to indie/emo/rock stuff, im a huge fan of bands like Texas is the Reason, Sunny Day Real Estate, Taking Back Sunday.

I keep promting a good band in my signature. I wonder if anyone has checked them out. If not, a big opportunity to see them live is coming up on November 22 at Le Bar Bat with 4 other bands. Click the site below for more details. Maybe have a RFNet gathering, if you wish...

a Bass player I work with and have jammed with many times is in a band called NEW LIFE...
they are opening for a band called HEALING SIXES who just brought on Jason Bonham...
show is at the STONE PONY in Asbury Park on 10/29...
NEW LIFE's music is all original and very unique...i've seen them several times now and when people ask me "who do they sound like" i'm unable to match them up with any others particular style or sound!
My friends nickname is BOOTSY and he is considered the FUNKIEST BASS player in the Jersey Shore area...
if your in the area check them out, you won't be dissapointed!

I've been dowloading some songs from this new band called "Nurvana" or somesuch. They rock and are like nothing I've heard before. Their music has this "edge" to it.. feels sort of dirty. One could even it has a "grungy" air to it. I think it might catch on.

I've been dowloading some songs from this new band called "Nurvana" or somesuch.

I too have heard a "buzz" abou this band. Aren't they from Seattle? I know this one band I like called the Melvins have had their drummer helping out with this Nurvana thing.

They rock and are like nothing I've heard before.

There is also this band called Mud Honey who rocks quite well also along with the Melvins. Anyone familiar with the Garden of Sound or the Lover of Mothers Bone? There is some interessting music coming out of this area. I wonder if it will soon become a phenomenon and makes tons of teenages cry into their milk. Damn kids just don't understand it.

Got the new record from The Donnas the other day entitled Spend The Night. This album smokes from start to finish and is it right up there with my top records for the year. If you have ever heard anything from The Donnas before this is by far the best they have done. More songs about boys and hanging out and the mall. There are also some really nice solos on this too. I have kind of been missing the guitar solo. Granted I have a spot in my heart for Get Skintight and R N R Machine, this album shows their growth as musicians by leaps and bounds. It kind of falls into the hard rock sound of the eighties but only these are girls instead of guys who dress up like girls (or like some of the 80's glam scene, have BECOME girls). This record just rocks.

And even though they broke up over a decade ago, The Replacements are still the greatest American band ever. Anyone who says otherwise is a Nazi and should be put in Nazi jail.

Far too many. Florida and Cali spawned dozens of bands like that in the mid-90's. I'll need some more to go on.

The best girl "punk" group, however, was Tsunami. Jenny Toomey is a hometown DC girl who did right. Check 'em out.

I checked out the Sahara Hotnights and it was good and from what I found, it is in a whole other direction than The Donnas. I hear alot of garage and Detroit in them which is a good thing. This thread is turning out kind of cool becasue I love hearing what others are listening to and I can tell through many of your words so far that you are very passionate about it. Cool!

Think The Smiths mixed with "Achtung"-era U2 and mid-80's REM. Absolutely beautiful music. And it can rock your balls off. Go to cd-wow.com to buy the newest album, since it's still just an import. They'll ship it from the UK for no shipping in just about a week for about $13. Hell, buy "100 Broken Windows" as well, it's almost as good...
