Junks' Move Still On - 10/22 - We've still hearing from our reliable JFK source that the Sports Junkies will be making their move from evenings at Infinity's hot talk 106.7 to mornings at co-owned alt rocker WHFS, 99.1. It'll happen by the end of this week, we're told, and the Junks will be allowed to do a "sign-off" show on JFK-FM. No word yet on what'll replace them. Ron And Fez?.....

I mean, think about it. It'd be no trouble to move them AGAIN on WNEW. And they'd be open to both the D.C. and NY markets. The listeners have been shown to follow R&F at nights...and while I'm sure you New Yorkers crow about your market being #1, D.C. IS a top ten market - nothing to take lightly.

It makes good business sense to have them on live in two of the top ten markets in the country.

Not just top ten, we're in the top five. DC is the fourth largest radio market in the country. They get on here and NYC live, hopefully Boston and Philly will follow within a year or so.

All I know is I just heard a WJFK promo listing that included "Ron & Fez".

Listening to the last few minutes of the Junkies ever on WJFK.

I love R&F, and this is the best possible outcome, but as a Junkies fan, this is kinda bittersweet. Going to a clusterfuck like WHFS is like a shot to the knees. I hope they pull it off and kick some ass in the mornings, or wherever.

They just wished R&F all the best in their new LIVE slot, said that R&F will broadcast live from DC a couple days a week, and "in six months, who knows? This might be their home base..."

I just heard the same thing. I doubt that R&F will come to DC at all. But I can believe that they will go back to their old time and be live on WJFK.

i can confirm that ron and fez will be live here in dc from 7-11. asa previous poster mentioned they will be commuting back and forth from ny to dc during the week,and broadcasting from both stations. furthermore, i have heard directly from a "important person" at jfk that the future plan involves r&f making dc their permanent home. keep your eyes peeled.

This makes sense, since R&F's contract isn't up for some time after WNEW will go to its new format. Rather than have them sat on their asses, the company is moving them down to do some shows in DC... <P>
It seems a very strong likelihood that they will be there as a regular gig. <P>

It does feel good to know you're staying up in the wee hours of the morning listening to ron and fez. In the summer the 1-3 time was fantastic but its a little tough with school. But I'd rather have them live and be able to call in.

I think this will work out fine for all parties. An uphill battle is inevitable for the Junkies, but they'll be able to hold their own in morning drive. I think a lot of people listen to Elliot only because that's the only option besides Stern -- I mean, Diamond in the Morning? Ew. No. Bah.

Having Ron & Fez live on JFK will be great. Their show complements Don & Mike very well, and I'm sure D&M will provide a good lead-in audience. I've been looking forward to this ever since the O&A debacle took place. It's been a while, but I'll once again be glued to 106.7 all day long!

Well, I must say I've never posted here before, but the announcement that Ron and Fez are going live in D.C. deserves a shout-out. <P> What I dont understand is why the media is not playing this up more, as I have it on good authority Captain Moose was instrumental in getting this move done as it was one of the primary demands in the DC sniper case... If you had to sit on your hands all night wanting to call in but realizing all that wonderful humour was hours old, well... <P> I will miss the sports junkies at night but I agree Ron and Fez being live is better.
