HK-
i was eating dinner the other night and when it started to get quiet my brothers gf heard a sound, apparently my jaw was clicking like someone was knocking on the wall. I didnt notice it b/c i was so used to the sound i guess. My brother freaked out and said that i probably have TMJ, yet he didnt tell me what it was exactly. Do you know?...is it serious or not really?

I have TMJ. It's no big deal,
just means your jaw aches
every now and then and
clicks a lot. Just stay away
from a lot of hard to chew
food, and see the dentist
about getting a mold for
your teeth. It's basically a
cushion that you wear at
night in case you grind your
teeth bad.

I have it too. No biggie. I
grind my teeth like a mofo
apparently though. I bought
a $25 night guard at the
drugstore and it seems to
work when it actually stays
in my mouth. Not too much
to worry about besides how
disgustingly far the left side
of my jaw pops out by my
ear when I yawn.

Yep, you got it exactly right
DMMoe. It stands for Too
Many Jawbreakers.
actually, it's funny you ask,
cuz it's a condition I have
and don't even know what it
stands for.
And for me, it's on the ride
side of my jaw. Man does it
hurts on a bad grinding
night, and man it pops to
the side like a bastard
when I yawn.

I have it too. I've had it since I can remember. My mom thinks its cause I was a forcep baby. I also grind my teeth way loud. Occasionally, I get jaw joint aches and migranes and sometimes when I wake up my teeth are actually sore from grinding them soo much and clenching them. My friend has is too and she had one of those mouth piece things. I asked her about it cause I was considering getting one and she said it normally ends up on the other side of the room and not worth it.
So I say fuck it, until my denstist says I need soemthing, I'll deal with it.

See, the problem is that God gives men a brain and a penis, and only enough blood to run one at a time.

I didn't think that I ground
my teeth either. But
apparently I do. A LOT.
If you get frequent
unexplainable headaches (I
tend to get mine in my left
temple), it could very well be
the TMJ.
You could also be
damaging your teeth. I think
I am going to try a
nightguard that goes on my
upper teeth. Maybe that will
stay in better.

TMJ can range from mildly annoying to very painful. In extreme cases surgery to repair the disk in the TMJ joint must be performed.
The first treatment is usually a nightguard made by a dentist. They are custom molded to your mouth and very sturdy and are better than the ones available from your local drugstore. After a month or two you can show your dentist the nightguard so that the pattern of grinding is better understood.
I'm a chronic grinder (while I sleep) and the nightguard has helped to some extent. Massage is also very good.

Damn, i thought i was the only to have it. What helped me was also a custom mouthguard and muscle relaxers. The reason i had it was b/c i had stress at work.

A word about flexirol and other muscle relaxants - Just remember, the heart is also a muscle. Ask your doctor before taking any medication.
