CAL F'ING RIPKEN'S BULLSHIT STREAK?????

This is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life, He played more consecutive games than someone who had to retire because he got sick and DIED????

Fuck that old, hanger on glory hound, who took a "day off" in 1998 to get some attention away from the home run chase and the Yankees

DIE OF LOU GEHRIG'S!!!!!!

and FUCK anyone who voted for him!!!

-sorry, I need a nap...

I voted for Hank Aaron. Ripken is cool and all, but Aaron is the man. Im surprised his homer record didnt get #1.

I put Lou Gehrig instead of Hank Aaron the first time, stupid me

I must have been watching the wrong show. I didn't see Carlton Fisk's game winning home run in the World Series.

And what about Bill Buchner? Who doesn't remember that?

Cal Ripkin even making the list is stupid.

Oh yeah, the picking Gibson was cool. That was the first series I ever saw. Unbelievable.

THANK GOD SOMEONE ELSE IN THE WORLD SEEMS TO HATE CAL NEARLY AS MUCH AS ME!!

The guy wins a World Series, wins an MVP or two, and wins some Gold Gloves. Hall of Fame? Yes.....BUT THE FACT THAT THE FUCKER SHOWED UP FOR WORK EVERYDAY MAKES HIM THE MOST MEMORABLE OF ALL TIME?!?!?!?!?

I fully believe that if they did a "Greatest Ballplayer of All Time" poll, and it was done primarily online, this motherfucker Ripken would fucking win that too!

It's not bad enough that for the last year of "the streak" (and the four years after it) he was hurting his team by playing everyday because he was awful. It's not bad enough that he stole spots at the All-Star Game for the last three years of his career from more deserving 3rd basemen because the ballots were cast primarily online while he was batting .230 (and for streches of time not starting FOR HIS OWN FUCKING TEAM). But now he is the most memorable person/thing/career/moment in BASEBALL HISTORY?!?!

Damn Cal Ripken, damn anyone who likes him, and damn all the prepubescent, computer literate but baseball ignorant fucks who voted his worthless ass to #1.

FUCK CAL RIPKEN!!!! May he get ass-cancer & live to be a-hundred!!

FUCK YOU RIPKEN. I hated him so much, he sucked so bad he had to move from short to 3rd. He is what i hate about baseball, he's the all american white guy who is everybody's god. He should have retired 6 years before he did. He was SOOO bad, i don't give it shit if he was good, he sucked for a long time. That thing A-Rod did at the ALL-Star game really pissed me off. I think they should have seperated it from moments and plays. If it was a moment then it had to be robinson coming in to the pros. Think about what baseball would be without all the different cultures. Now thats the point of baseball, without him it would be totally different.

wow, man if was not for Ripken, Mcguire and Sosa baseball would be in a world of hurt right now... they helped to bring back the history and nastalga(sp) that people think about in baseball... in light of strikes and over paid players these men help revive baseball... give Ripken a break... ...

I voted for the time that a woman accused David Cone of jerking off in the Mets bullpen. Surprisingly high in the voting was Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson of the 70's Yankees swapping their wifes, houses and dogs.

For me the most memorable moment was Dave Dravecky breaking his arm in mid-pitch.

For me the most memorable moment was Dave Dravecky breaking his arm in mid-pitch.

how tasteless is that? why dont you also include when tony saunders arm snapped twice? or when jason kendall's foot almost fell off?...

I have nothing against Ripken, but it shouldn't have been the number 1 moment. I think Hank Aarons homer should be #1. Too many newer baseball fans voted for Ripken. Thats why he won. It was really great to see Pete Rose get a standing ovation like that. Now they just have to put him in the Hall Of Fame. I had to laugh seeing Hall of Famers like Aaron, Rose(hopefully), and future Hall of famers like Ripken and McGwire standing next to a jackass like Kirk Friggin' Gibson. I still hate him 14 years later.

I am a die hard Met fan, but the Buckner error is very overrated. It was the wild pitch that tied the game.

CAL F'ING RIPKEN'S BULLSHIT STREAK?????

That was bullshit. In over one hundred years of baseball THIS is the most memorable moment? I think not.

I was as disappointed with this poll as I was with the ESPN poll the named Michael Jordan the greatest athlete of the 20th century. That title belongs to Babe Ruth, who both saved and transformed his sport and was the first sports icon.

Ripken was a great player but he's overrated.

Most memorable moment... greatest athlete of all time... these questions are meaningless and a waste of time. How about some real questions. Such as:

Most disturbing injury?

Wildest brawl/fight?

Most surprising charge or conviction?

FUCK CAL RIPKEN

My choice would be DiMaggio hitting safely in 56 consecutive games. A record that will NEVER be broken.

As far was what I've actually seen, Gibson's pinch-hit homer off Eckersley with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give LA the win. Pure magic.

See, the problem is that God gives men a brain and a penis, and only enough blood to run one at a time.

don't hate Cal Ripken, he can't control these people who voted...from everything I've seen of Cal Ripken he is a humble person and just gave his best...
i don't believe it should be #1 myself either but should be in the top 5 or 10...
DiMaggio hitting streak should be in the top 3 being it still stands today...
1 - Jackie Robinson
2 - DiMaggio's hitting streak
3 - Hank Aaron

It should've been Gehrig's farewell. that was one of the most beautiful moments in the history of sports, let alone baseball. Ripkin, he just showed up to work, and only 162 times a year.

The Top 10 Most Memorable Moments
(as voted by fans):
1. 1995 - Cal Ripken breaks Lou Gehrig's streak with his 2,131st consecutive game.
2. 1974 - Hank Aaron breaks Babe Ruth's all-time home run record.
3. 1947 - Jackie Robinson becomes the first African-American Major Leaguer.
4. 1998 - Mark McGwire & Sammy Sosa surpass Roger Maris' single-season home run record.
5. 1939 - Lou Gehrig retires with his "luckiest man" farewell speech.
6. 1985 - Pete Rose passes Ty Cobb as the all-time hits leader.
7. 1941 - Ted Williams is the last man to post a .400 average.
8. 1941 - Joe DiMaggio hits in 56 straight games.
9. 1988 - Kirk Gibson's pinch-hit homer sends LA on its way to a World Series upset.
10. 1991 - Nolan Ryan pitches his seventh career no-hitter.

Where's the record that will never be broken - Johnny Vander Meer's back-to-back no-hitters? And where's Carlton Fisk's home run in the '75 Series? Kirk Gibson's home run? Over rated.
