well the world series is drawring to a close yet this time the almight yankess are not even there to blow it in game 7.

yes i realize they are the greatest franchise ever, yes i think 4 championships in 5 years or whatever it was is impressive, and no i am not here to say the yankees suck, because they most certainly do not.

but their late 90's magic is over, that team is gone and this new one isn't going anywhere. sorry giambi, you hopped on board a little late, the yankees are done winning titles every single year.

you can replace tino, broscious, knoublauch and o'neil on paper with guys that seem better, but when they all left so did the yankees heart. all they have left is a pudgeball doing deodarant commercials.

for those of you who love the yankees you must admit the time of being alone at the top has ended, and those of you who hate them enjoy it now, you never know when the money will buy them the right combination again.

I love the Yankees and will defend them to the day I die. But, you make an important point. Brosius, O'neal, Tino, and Chuck were not the best players on paper, but they were the best and most resilient players in the clutch. The new batch of guys (Mondesi, Rivera, White, Van Der Wahl, Ventura) are great players on paper. But like paper, they crumble under pressure. It was sad to see the Yankees fold this year. But replacing the Yankee spirit of the late 1990s is an almost impossible task. The pitching may be to blame for their loss. But their will and their spirit is what was truly lacking this year. Hopefully we can rekindle that fire in the near future. But until then, all we have are memories.

Fatty great point... as most know i am a mets fan and i agree to most of what was just said. You can't replace Tino, just too good.. and Paulie Baseball..Man Paul O'neil was one of the best... But Knobie needed to go 2 years ago...his hitting fell off and so did his defense... but to say that Ventura can't handle pressure is nuts..Look at his post season with the mets and the fact that he has like 12 grand slams which in counter so much pressure when ever you step up the plate with the bases juiced... The yanks will be back soon but this series is fucking awesome.....

What is this, a death knell for a team that won a 103 games last season? In the playoffs, the hottest teams wins. Joe Torre put it best, "The Yankees picked a bad time to have a 3 game losing streak". As much a s I hate to say it (being a Mets fan) the Yanks will be back kicking ass next year.

Typical Yankee fan thinking:

When winning: Yankees, Yankees, Yankees. They win all the games. Yankees, Yankees, Yankees. Yankees, Yankees, Yankees!

When losing: Somebody send Steinbrenner on a homemade raft to Cuba.

See, the problem is that God gives men a brain and a penis, and only enough blood to run one at a time.

Fatty, I totally agree with you, except for this:
you never know when the money will buy them the right combination again.

Yankees did not have their recent success based on players they bought, this is typical Met fan thinking, including the Mets' back office who thought they would copy the Yankees by buying people like Alomar and Mo Vaughn, not to mention the two guys they let go, and bought back at twice the price...

The Yankee's recent success comes from people who came up in their farm system. Guys like Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, and Mariano Rivera

Yes, Paul Oneil, Tino, Brosius, Cone, etc. came from other teams, but the organization used what they already had as a template, and filled in their holes. people forget this, and cry "poverty" when the Yankees win, but in reality, the Yanks had a better farm system, and a lot of good players graduated to the big leauges around the same time. The yanks weren't stupid, they weren't going to waste that opportunity by not supporting them.

And as someone else mentioned, the Yanks won 103 games this season, last time I checked, that's nothing to scoff at, this year is a fluke world series. I'm sorry, I respect the teams, but because they're both "Wild Card" teams, it's a fluke, plain and simple...

so stop sounding the death knell for the Yankees; Barring disaster, they will continue their 5-Year reign as AL East champions for some time to come...

This is just fucking stupid.

The Yankees didn't win the world series this year... they certainly don't suck and they will be in contention for it next year..

Take your new manager and go and lose 100 games.. dummy.

the bitterness of yankee fans this year, it's such a sweet sound. of course it's always my dumb ass that is bitter every year watching the yankee fans happy, but now they are all as bitter as me. i love it.

anyways i'm not saying the yankees weren't good this year, and that they won't be next year. i'm saying that feeling of total dominance that the yankees had forever is done, they'll be a good team but not like they were once.

and yeah they have a great farm system no doubt, but they do buy a ridiculous amount of top tier players.

but it didn't matter this year or last!

i'm saying that feeling of total dominance that the yankees had forever is done,

Forever? geez, up until '94, the Yankees hadn't even been a winning team since the days of Reggie Jackson, definately not a playoff team, it's all cyclical, nobody screamed and yelled about Toronto when they won two years in a row...

...I dunno, the argument that the yanks are a monopoly really bugs me, and if I remember right, up until Giambi, they never really got the "hot" prospect, they wouldn't shell out the money for a Griffey, or an Alomar, or a Leiter.... so there! :-)

Etc. = Cecil Fielder, Kenny Rogers, John Wettland, Joe Girardi, Tim Raines, Jimmy Key, Luis Sojo, Wade Boggs, David Wells, Mike Stanton, Chili Davis, David Justice, and Jose Canseco (they paid him a lot anyway),

Yeah they won 103 games in a league that had 3 100 game losers and 3 others teams within 12 games of losing 100. I'm not at all a proponent of the " Yankees buy their championships " nonsense, because afterall, isnt that the idea of a business , but the luxury tax will change things. And I hope no Yankee fans think thay Drew Henson is the answer. Word is that he makes so many errors, that his next baseball card is gonna read drEw hEnson.

I have balls !!!
