What is your favorite exotic food? I am partial to Vietnamese. If you are ever near Central Park West, check out the Saigon Grill.

German food's great, but extremely heavy...one meal at the Bavarian restaurant and I'm full for the rest of the week. (ok, not really exotic, but I don't go for spicy stuff)

When I was in Korea, I loved to eat this stuff called "yaki mandu," (sorry abou the spelling, RonFezMark) which is little packets of meat in some dough, fried and then covered with tons of salt. This old guy who was missing a few teeth made the best stuff. There was also this old lady in Osan who would wear a fake McDonald's hat and make these pork sausage "hamburgers" with lots of this cole-slaw sort of stuff on it. Man.. I'm so hungry right now. I also enjoy pad thai.

Is it really foreign food if prepared by a 2nd or 3rd generation American?

If so, my favorite is very spicy Itallian and Chinese.

Close to where I live is a family run Vietnamese restaurant. Very fresh ingredients and very good food.

Close to where I used to live was a family run Thai restaurant with the same criteria.

I googled it, and there's a bunch of different recipes.
Seems to be that it differs depending on the region of Brazil it's made in.

I'll have to see if there's any Brazillian places around here.
Woudn't mind trying this.

Empenadas! My grandmother used to make the greatest god rest her soul

Empanadas are "da bomb." I have to try them everywhere they're offered. I've had good ones (like the little ones that a lady used to sell down on the Wildwood Boardwalk near Castle Dracula; her stand isn't there anymore ... and neither is the Castle) and I've had absolutely wretched ones (like the belly-bombs they served at this theme restaurant near the apartment) but lately I've been spoiled.

My brother's girlfriend's mother makes them with guava or mango and queso fresco ... SOOOOO GOOD. That woman is the best. I want her to teach me how to make them, but I think it might help if I learned better Spanish first.

I am also partial to samosas ... which are like the Indian street-food answer to empanadas. I like my samosas with mango chutney...yum.

Spanish lime
kenepas (also known as genipa, quenepa, mamoncillo, or Spanish lime), these are small fruits of Melicoccus bijugatus, a tropical tree. The dark green skin looks like that of a lime, but the resemblance ends there, as it can be neatly cracked open between the teeth with a soft bite.

Once hatched, inside is a large seed covered with a peach-colored layer of sticky, gummy flesh. The taste is sweet-sour, and leaves your tongue with a little of that "furry" feeling some fruits can give you.

Growing up in Key West we raided these trees all we could, very tasty fruit.
