It's probably due to familiarity, and memories. Remembering fun you had with her makes you upset that you no longer have contact with her. It's similar to when a friend or relative passes.

Hit the leads, go on to creating new memories and good times. Look forward, not back.

Similar experience...
Lived with someone for a while, he got a job far away and it was time to for me to go with him and get married or stay here and move on.

I was pretty scared of what would happen, but I ended things b/c i knew if I went I could never have the career i wanted and I would have to rely on him for everything. The thing i was most nervous about was let the 'one' get away. I dated other guys afterward, but non were relationship material and I kept thinking I made a mistake.
He became pretty successful and had a great new life and that made it worse.
BUT....then I met my boyfriend now and he's everything I've ever wanted. Our relationship and my life with him are so much better than anything I could have had with the other guy.

Moral...if it didn't work, there's a reason You might not see it right now, but you'll find someone better and everything you're going through will be worth it.
