<font color=purple>1st off, I obviously love the show, and support the guys as best I can. And whenever possible, I'm happy to be a part of it.

That said, I really wish they wouldn't have been so cordial to that scumbag John.

I regret not being able to get through tonight so that I could refute his lame ass argument. But more than that, I wish they would've called him on some of the hate and falsehoods he was spewing.

It's one thing to give people a platform, it's another to lend validity to it. In a sense, I think they did that tonight, and I'm sorta surprised by it.

Perhaps Ron and Fezzy didn't take it there for a reason. Since its a touchy subject and they being the moderators, of it instead of adding fuel to the fire, they kept cool. With racists like that, everyone's first instinct is to get back at them full force- or maybe its me. But I just listened. He talked a lot, made no point and he didn't say anything I haven't already heard so I didn't let myself get angry. May not have been the way I'd react to that caller but I don't disagree with the way Ron and Fez dealt with it.

If this does not contain any swear words in it, your lucky ass caught me on a good day...

R&F handle it likes pros. They don't jump on either side, and let this tool make an ass of himself. And he does a better job of it than anyone else can. And Earl brought up the best point, in that they only push around the "innocent people"...these white power goons always claim to be threatened by "powerful Jews" or "drug-dealing gangbanging blacks", but these assholes never go after those kind of people. They go after the defenseless old black couple down the street. They go after the rabbi on the street. They're cowards, scum, and they can't even have the balls to back up their so-called convictions. Racists are scum. A guy like John the skinhead is radio gold; he gets every listener emotionally charged and the phones light up.

What's sad is that most people can't control their tempers when they call in to debate him and wind up sounding even crazier than him.

The Israeli woman who called in and said we should bomb Germany because the Nazi's are "still there" came off as loony as he is. I can understand her frustration and pain, but irrational thoughts don't get you very far in an argument, no matter what side you're on.

That's absurd. Did you really listen? Ron and Fez handled it well, the guy came across as a totally disturbed hatemonger. The more he spoke the more he buried himself.

<font color=purple>I disagree. They allowed him to state opinion as fact, never really calling him on any of it. He was permitted to get his whole hateful agenda out, actually questioning historical fact, and he did so with impunity.

In fact, after a tirade on Jews and how he does a *happy dance* when he thinks of them dying in mass numbers, despite the fact that he doesn't actually believe the Holocaust ever really happened, Ron's stinging follow-up was <i>"yeah, but they are a pretty funny group of people"</i> and that they <i>"just can't seem to get over that whole christ killing thing."</i>

Why am I not surprised to see you say that? Is that really what you think happened here? You feel that advocating the death of entire races and religions amounts to nothing more than a dissenting opinion?

If you're gonna do that kind of radio, I feel it's important to do it right. They didn't. It's their show, the burden of showing this deranged asshole to be a deranged asshole shouldn't fall upon a few obviously flustered and emotional callers.

If they're going to put him up there, one would hope they'd also be the ones to take him down. Or at least take him to task on some of his rhetoric.

I hate a racist/hatemonger as much as any level-headed adult...but I think I would listen to that show before I would listen to what is on WNEW from 2-7pm now.

On a serious note, though, does anyone else ever find it amazing who listens to Ron & Fez? Maybe I'm just ignorant in my thinking that the vast majority of their listeners are within the 17-30 range, but it kills me when they are on a topic and a 65 year old guy calls in to give his opinion. Or, an older, immigrant lady like the one that called in today. She could barely speak proper English, so I'm sure her comprehension level is low as well..how does she get enjoyment out of a show where she misses the majority of the jokes? Not that I care, the more the merrier, it just makes me laugh a little.

Just like they always have, Ron and Fez gave John the Skinhead the rope to hang himself. If you think he had a lot of airtime last night, you'd be shocked to hear some of his appearances in the dot com days.

It would have been easy for Ron to play the Ani Difranco and hang up on the guy, but by giving him the chance to talk, it gave us as listeners the chance to actually think about what he was saying and how absurd it was.

Sweeping opinions like his under the rug has done nothing to help the race relations in this country. We need to confront the prevailing notions in the white community, not just pretend they don't exist in some sort of PC vacuum. We can change all the laws we want, but until we start to change minds, nothing will change.

i think the boys just rolled with it. i actually turned off the show after a while, just because the topic didn't really interest me. and for all those people who had a problem with the bit, or "conversation", they should have just done the same thing. i love the show, but i just don't like "serious" ron and fez. if they were tooling on the guy i would have probably kept it on. i just kept checking back till he was off the air then i put the show back on, and good thing i did! i could only imagine what Billy looked like it that getup he was in, too bad they couldn't take pictures of it.

Exactly how I see it Dan. It would have been much easier if the guys hung up on him or ranted and raved on him, but where does that get us? Its hurtful, its upsetting, and its saddening to hear what racist minds think but I'd rather know what they're thinking then be totally oblivious until something destructive or criminal happens. <P>

I just want to add that racism is a two way street. Every ethnicity/race/religion etc. is guilty of generalizing and making blanket statements about another race.

It's not only white people that carry preconceived notions about others.

Racism persists because it's easy to blame your problems on others, and it's easier to say "those people..." than to actually learn anything about them.

Anyhoo, conversations about race, gender or religion usually end up sucking major ass.
