Barry White needs kidney transplant

US soul star Barry White, whose deep voice has made him a classic romantic accessory for nearly 30 years, needs to undergo kidney transplant surgery, his record label said today.

The burly 58-year-old singer needs to replace the organ that has been damaged by years of high blood pressure.

"He has started a course of maintenance dialysis therapy," Def Jam Music Group said in a statement.

"Once stabilised, he will be a candidate for a kidney transplant."

The label revealed earlier this month that the singer had begun dialysis after kidney failure.

I had heard earlier in the day yesterday that he had died. I am so glad that was not the case becasue I could not have taken that and JMJ in the same day. I hope he gets better soon.

barry White not only is a great singer, but is also a great humanitarian, who has done much with his fame and wealth, and overcame a rough childhood to achieve success.
