Close call. I'll go w/ Batman because I think Keaton/Nicholson were stronger leads then McGuire/Dafoe. Actually, my favorite Superhero flick is Raimi's Darkman.

I'm a little biased on this one...they shot some scenes for Spider-Man while I was working over at Rockefeller Center. They featured one of the rooftop gardens that I regularly worked on in one scene.

Spiderman was a better character to me so I lean towards that as a better movie. Batman was much more true to the comic , with the exception of Vicki Vale.

"Spider-Man". Burton didn't bother to try and humanize the non-superhero sides of his characters, especially Bruce Wayne. He ignored Gordon, had Batman kill, and made the movies about the villains. Plus, some woman had to find out who Batman really was in EACH OF THE GODDAMN FILMS. It was getting ridiculous.
"Batman" did have, however, a far more kick ass soundtrack. Even "Batdance" is better than that "Hero" gooseshit. "Spider-Man" gave equal time to the Peter Parker parts, and gave Dafoe a chance to really push things as Norman Osbourne. Too bad the Green Goblin side was so lame.

I know. They should've at least made the mask more flexible and not this steel construct.
I'll go with Batman because of the nostalgia. That scene with Joker in the museum while Prince's "partyman" playing is priceless.

Nicholson surpasses DeFoe by far but Tobey beats Michael in all of the hero columns. Spider-Man story was alot better than BatMan. but spidey was more true to the comic. and ill bet money that the spidey frachise wont be as bad as the batman franchise.

Nicholson's Joker sucks, donkey-style.
Mark Hamill's Joker is the best of the best.

It's unfair to choose since burton and raimi did such a great transition from the book to the screen...but spidey's story was cooler.

And the best Batman movie so far was that animated "Batman Beyond: Return of The Joker"...scrap this live-action junk and just animate "Year One". Plus they already did a Batman vs. Superman cartoon flick, and it ruled. Live-action guys in tights just ends up being gay.

Mark Hamill's Joker is the best of the best.
WTF? When did Hamill play Joker? I know he played his voice in that birds of prey crapshow, but that wasn't him in costume was it? If it was 10 seconds of Hamill joker can't possible be better than Nicholson's performance. You couldn't even see Joker's face.

I saw it on Cartoon Network last night. Too bad it was the PG-13 version. The unrated one is even darker and creepier.

OK the first Batman movie VS. Spiderman with no other options. I'll go with Batman. Spiderman was GREAT, the story moved well, it showed the characters well, just very entertaining. But I go with Batman because of how it was made. The mood. Batman is a dark, problem ridden character, and it showed. At the same time it was light and entertaining. I thought Jack was great as the Joker...he was excellent. I think that Batman stayed more to the comic...I know I'll get a lot of slack for that comment but I'm stickin' with it. Also keep in mind that back when Batman was made, they didn't have the techno that Spidey had. At this point, the marriage between special effects, and camera shots are perfectly seemless. Imagine what the first Batman would have been like if it was made now.

first off, EROLES BACK! YAY! now to the topic at hand...im going to go with Spiderman as much as i love burton and he did great things with the character the thing that got me most was the fact that they did more with the people part of the characters in spiderman...plus some of the greatest move tie ins ive ever seen here are some examples...
-peter is fired by Dr.Connors (Doc Connors is the Lizard if you all know)
-The Seceratary Pete talks to is obviously suppose to be Betty Brant a one time love of petes
-they mention the photographer at the bugle being named eddie, i think that thats suppose to be a tie in to eddie brock who was also a journalist
-Harry vows to avenge his fathers death at the end of the movie, anyone who follows the comic would know that harry goes crazy due to the loss of his father and the fact that he never got acceptence from him and becomes the second green goblin.
i think this movie held true to the comic more which is why i liked it better than batman and x-men...i loved batman but im all for an animated Year One written by frank miller, i'd mark out so hard for that itd be disgusting.

Well, at this point, "Year One" is going to be live action, but it IS being co-written by Miller. Plus it's directed by Darren "Pi", "Requiem For A Dream" Aronofsky, so Burton can go lick a monkey.

Stop the presses!
It's been confirmed for a while now, and everything points to the script itself being as finished as possible for now. Aronofsky was announced as the director a good year or so ago, but he has one movie that he's shooting right now to wrap up first. The schedule was thrown into limbo by the awful-sounding "Superman vs. Batman", which Warner Bros. wanted to push first, but since it's fallen by the wayside, "Year One" is again shaping to be the next Bat-flick.
Outside of Moore's "The Killing Joke" and Miller's "Dark Knight Returns", "Year One" is perhaps THE best Batman story around. It's set right before Bruce Wayne actually becomes Batman, and in the first year of his career as Batman, natch. Basically introduces Gordon and Catowman to Gothan as well. It's available in a really cheap paperback, so if you haven't read it, check it out ASAP. You'll wet your pants when you realize that it's going to be the next film.

that story is my favorite batman one. and if we're talking about good batman trades, shame on you mojo for not listing The Long Halloween in there...Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale are now a titanic team just because of that one story, also another great trade if you can pick it up excellent read and i really dont like Loebs work so it must be good.

I liked Spiderman better than Batman. Burton's movies are always visually stunning but storywise they always move too slow for my tastes.

I even liked that they made the webs shoot directly from Parker's body instead of a web shooter that he constructs. It departs from the comics but it worked well in the movie.
