I didn't know where to post this, so I figured off-topic was a good enough place.
I was checking out Ernie's house of Whoop-Ass today (http://www.ehowa.com) and right at the top is an e-mail exchange that disgusted me.
Surely, this can't be the opinion of academia in general. My own child is in her second year of college; I pray that her professors are more open to the open exchange of ideas in that center for learning.
Anyway, a student needed contact info for school-oriented stuff.
The student also happened to be a cadet at the Air Force Academy, something that in my opinion is something to be very proud of.
The response that he recieved from a PROFESSOR at the other school is disturbing.
Just in case the text off of EHOWA gets moved, I'll copy & paste it here. The professor's sending out an automated reply now for the tons of people who he has offended. The idiot.

Now I'm a pretty laid back guy, and few and far between are the events that really piss me off. Sure we all get frustrated or a little irritable every now and again, but I'm talking really pissed off.

So that, as one might expect sent me into a fucking tirade. I mean I saw seeing fucking stars. I wanted to kick my dog. I wanted to smack my television. I wanted to drive to Chicago and take a great big shit on ol Peter's car. But instead, I cooled down and calmly came to the realization that this matter will need to be handled with diplomacy and tact instead of brute force and anger. So I wrote the following letter to our dear professor and cc'd the President of Saint Xavier University....
