Horrific Tales Told to Children

When I was a child, I remember reading stories like "Hansel and Gretal". I mean, how, horrific to read this childhood tale about a boy and girl who get lost in the woods and find a witch there who puts kids in her oven.

I mean, as a child, I was terrified to get lost in the woods near my house, thinking there was a witch somewhere in there. I have promised myself never to read stuff like this to my own kids.

All of the Grim's fairy tales that we know of are actually greatly sanitized versions. If you can, try and find the original versions. MUCH scarier. Cannibalism, rape, pedophilia, infanticide - the originals were rampant with these themes.
