I like to read the book, THEN see the movie. The book always has a better details and you can use your imagination to create the scenery and what the characters look like. Then I go see the movie to compare the 2 versions.

I'd rather read the book. Reading a book lasts longer. Besides that, given that I like suspense/mysteries, it's good to have a book where you can go back if you need to figure something out.

I like to read the book, THEN see the movie

I'm the same way, book then movie. I like to formulate my own ideas about the characters and settings then compare them to the director's. The only problem with reading the book first is it's always, without fail, better than the movie, so you usually end up a bit disappointed.

Depends on which book and which movie. Movies seem to help with Shakespear. First watch then read. Everything else read first.

when I have the time I like to read the book. However I don't so normally I just watch the movie.

The best example of this is anything by Michael crichton. Books like congo and sphere were extremely good books but the movie didn't do them justice.

Read first, then the movie, Hollywood often alters the book's original story. Ie: the original Frankenstien

this is helping a shit load you guys. if you have any examples to go with your "why" please feel free to include them.
my example would be jurassic park. i read the book way before they made it a movie. i remember huge parts the left out and the ending was much different. it always bothered me that they would change it so much.

another example of a movie not being the same as the book is Carrie, the movie is altered, plus the movie ends to early because the studio ran out of money for it
although i don't read so just use cliff notes, its faster and easier that way

i used to read a lot so i would have picked read, but now i rather go see a movie. mostly because i like studying the films, like looking at how well the sound is mixed, the cinemotography and things like that.

eh, depends. Sometimes a book is too good to be a movie. But sometimes, on rare occasion, the movie is better than the book, and I know this is sacrilegious, but Dammit, Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring movie is superior to the book. Most of what they do in the book is sleep and sing. I'm sick of sleeping and singing, I want blood, violence, and elf nudity.

I much prefer the written word for the depth of story.
Can anyone really have understood 2001, the movie, without having read the book or at least the short story, the Sentinel?
However, there's a lot to be said about the pure escapism that a 100 million dollar special effects driven (no plot) movie can bring.

I much prefer to read the book
(unless it is a Jeffrey Archer
novel) In that case I would prefer
to have my "piles" pushed back
in with a broom handle.
The film of the book usually does
not satisfy a bit like a
Macdonald's burger in place of
French cuisine.

watch the movie. i love books, and definetely think they can be better in a lot of ways, but nothing beats a good movie to me. plus i don't usually have enough time to read a book as i would like too.

I actually think The Exorsist was scarier as a book than a movie. The plot and character developement were better and the special effects are always better in your head. I almost always like the book better, with the exception of The Fellowship of the Rings where I think they did a great job of staying true to the book and made a visually amazing version. Hope this helps! Good luck on your assignment.

Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson are two books that were followed by brilliant adaptations to the movie screen. The only two that I have experienced.

Reading is like a getaway, you're in another world, you're lounging, you're emotions are being toyed with, it's just much more exciting.
Movies can/may give you the same thrill, but it only lasts up to 3 hours.
The feelings, message and growth you obtain from a book is worth the time you spent reading on it.
p.s. books don't have tits
movies do Try POP-UP books!
