Something I dont understand.........

Ok call it a stupid question but here it goes, recently Ive been looking for a part time job along side my regular full time one. So I went back to the supermarket one town away from me hoping that there would be a manager that remembered me. Long story short, he told me to fill out an aplication and he will get me in for an interview ASAP. This was all Sunday. I went in today, asking a manager who I didnt know what the status of my aplication was. She replied that she hasnt yet looked through them and she doubts that I will be hired due to the fact that even though she is hiring in other departments, she is also cutting payroll. Now being kind of pushy I asked her if there was a better time to come in and see if I still have a chance to get hired. She then told me after Thanksgiving.
Walking out the store something just didnt click. I asked my self, how could they be hiring in other departments, and at the same time cutting payroll? After all Id excpect there to be more income comming into the story around this time, due to the aproching holidays.
What do you think?

shes DICKING you around son.... since the holidays are coming up TONS of places will begin hiring very shortly...i dont wanna sound cliche` but try THE GAP or a TOY STORE or something just for the holiday season...most places may pay more than the usual as well
