SAVE R & F Billboard Idea

I had this idea kicking around today and was thinking if a billboard would work. I think of all the people entering and exiting the NJ Turnpike and coming in and leaving the city and, well just had to kick it around in here to see if it could work along with all of the other great ideas being generated here. Just wanted to throw it out there. How much could it cost? I figure not much because I see these billboards up for independent/family owned companies and I figure, How much could it be? Of course I could be wrong and totally in left field but with an army like this and as loyal as we all are to Ron and Fez staying in NYC this could be a cool thing. What does everyone think?

I looked at billboards on the way to Philly tonight and it is probably different in NY but the name STEEN was on the bottom of a bunch of them. I would have no idea how to go about it trying to get something like this done. I am going to do some research and I could do up a design too. IM me with any ideas you all may have too.

While shopping for billboard companies, I ran across yet another idea: medallion cab advertising, ya know those big ads on top of yellow cabs? I cant stop thinking about John Sykes or some other muckety-muck from infinity riding in their limo and pulling up to a red light alongside a yellow cab that says Save Ron and Fez! How cool would that be??? Ive reached out to a company for more details, but lemme know what u think.

actually billboard ad's are quite costly. i know for a fact, it costs around $100,000 to have a billboard in timesquare. O&A talked about it when they got the wow billboard.

i say the best place to get a billboard if we were to get one would be the ones entering and exiting the tunnels. i remember when i worked in nyc and take the holland tunnel everyday and i was so god damn sick of seeing the "absolut citron" ad. jesus... i had to go out and buy a bottle of it.

those 2 billboards exiting out the holland tunnel down varick street and all those billboards entering the holland tunnel... but like i said... they are big money.

I am still trying to get a hold of the billboard guys. From what I saw on the one site, www.beskomedia.com that is who I emailed already, it looks like the printing is in with it. I have not heard back from them yet but I am waiting. I am also doing up a design which I hope to have done tonight.

Well I looked into the cost of the taxi tops as i am sure ChrisTheCop did also and the guy said he "recommends" 100 cabs/double sided and it would cost $33,000. Since I am sounfamiliar with this kind of thing I asked him again about the cost and he said thats what it was. Still waiting to hear back from billboard people too.

Well I also did some research for you Fluff and I called ELRAY Corp. They are the guys that do the billboards on the NJ Tpke, Garden State Parkway and the LIE. They said a billboard costs approx. $16,000.00. They also said it takes approximately a month to put the billboard up. He said by that time it will be close to Christmas and they put holiday billboards up as priority first. He said the first available billboard is the end of December. That might be too late.

I really liked this idea, hoepfully you will have better luck than I did Fluff.

Thanks EffMe for the additional research. I think I posted above (I forget) but the guy I was talking to said $33,000. Thats a lot of clams and after I heard Don and Mike say today that WNEW is going "Christmas" on Thanksgiving well time does look like a factor. i am going to Kinko's tonight because they can do vinyl banners and even if a bunch of us stand at strategic parts of the NJ Turnpike or LIE or other major roadways just holding them up that could probably be done. Just have to brave the cold and get some smokes :) Would we have to get permission from the cops to do stuff like this? Just standing on the side of the road holding up a sign?

OK so nix on the billboard and I checked out Kinko's and they told me for a 3' by 9' Vinyl Banner it would run $7 a square foot. Thats anywhere from $189 - $250 for a banner and a few of us to stand in strategic spots to hold them. I am so in on the Sky Writing camplaign and wonder if this could work also. If not, O well. Hell, maybe both! What do you think?

Aya it sure will make an impact. It will be flying around for TWO HOURS! People can also look up that are jogging or whatever on the West Side Highway and also tune into the radio when they look up to read the banner. :)

Another alternative: Here in Washington there are a couple of courier companies that sell the sides of their trucks as advertising space. That way, your ad gets a lot of exposure as they drive around town making their deliveries. I can't remember the cost off the top of my head, but it did seem somewhat reasonable. There's got to be some kind of similar enterprise in New York. Just an idea! <P>

Somehow I missed this thread until now, but count me in for whatever you come up with.
I did notice that there is a sign right outside of the port authority police station on Boulevard East facing all the Lincoln Tunnel with the "Place your ad here!" quote. I've been running by this billboard three times a week and it's been empty for a long time. Perhaps we can low ball them here and get a billboard up immediately. I'll get the number on my run today and check into it. It isn't the best tunnel spot, but it is visible from the tunnel entrance, exit and the merging/standing traffic from all directions on the adjacent streets (BLVD East). Any thoughts?

I am going to find out from Kinko's tonight how much the vinyl banners would run and if we could do them or not. I was talking with JohnEEWadd last night and the hanging one on an overpass idea came up too. I like that a bit more than standing on the side of the road holding something. Who do I contact to see if this is legal or not? I am also looking into the t shirt idea and what something like that would run. I will post my findings later on.

I proposed to my wife by having "will you marry me Juliana?" put on a billboard down at times square. It was only up for one day and still cost $3,500. R & F are worth any amount, just keep in mind that $800 seems low to me.

I checked with kinkos today and I will show him the art work tomorrow. He said that for each banner it would be $189. I was looking into 5 or 6 and having them hung on overpasses on keyroads into the city. I am gonna ask around to make sure if this is ok to do before I make it official I guess. I am trying to keep a positive attitude about this and believing it will work.

EDIT: After further investigation on this, I am abandoning the idea. It just wont work and even the hanging of banners is illegal. Sorry if there was any false hope on this. I am really disappointed myself. I thank HordeKing for his insight on this. Thanks man! I am looking into the full page ad idea and I sent off emails to the NY Post, NY Times and Daily News. I will see what I hear from them.
