hey...

im doing an article for one of my classes on this subject and i wanted to get peoples thoughts and opinions. a lot of people feel that since everything is run by huge corporations (clear channel communications, viacom, aol time warner), independant stations cant do their thing, resulting in us having to hear the same shit over and over (for the most part) and not giving people exposure to different types of music. what do u think?

I totally agree.. there are times you will hear the same song on 4 different stations at the same time..

I have XM Radio and there is plenty of different music I listen to on my XM that would never be played on regular radio...

I live in northern NJ, 12 miles from NYC.I have to say NY has THE worst radio stations.I know people who were in Michigan, the mid west and Ca.They have told me radio it better there. You would think NYC, being a city known among countries, it would be better...so sad...I actually got in my car today and seeked and shearched till i ended up listening to smooth jazz! What is up with that???? <P>

Dude, Smooth Jazz CD101.9 owns your ass. They have the best damn songs that never get old (even though they are like the same 20 songs as the other stations). Though I'm wondering if Emmis is owned by Warner Bros. I'll have to check that out.

But I do think that there should be a small radio network setup for small companies wishing to compete with other larger corporations (like the ones listed above)

This is very true. There's ONE station in the area here in North NJ, WSOU, that even plays heavy, underground stuff. And that's pretty much just late night.

You DO NOT hear anything on the radio that hasn't had their huge label pay for exposure. That's gay. That's why you hear the same 10 songs all day long on Krock or Z-100. FUCK OFF.

Don't forget to include an ancedote on Dick Clark. He made his money is the record biz, buying partial rights to songs he produced, then paying off djays to spin then heavy on the radio. this was actually common practice back in the day; it probably still is. But always get exact quotes before you put it in a paper

Technically Payola is now illegal but that doesn't mean it no longer exists.

The unfortunate thing is that your average local band will never get a chance on mainstream radio because the stations are not going to take a chance on an unproven act.

It's a disgusting state of affairs, but thats the way American society works, those who are willing to sell their souls to the white buisness criminal bourgeois will make it and those who do not are doomed to obscurity.
