or is that just a rumor, cuz people don't know how to control their urges? I resort to j/o and beef jerkey when I am craving, but I don't want to get fat and lose my boyish figure either. Also, I am coughing a lot since I began this, I saved everything I coughed up in a cup, and it smells like a chewing tobacco spit cup, even though I havnt smoked since I started spitting. Nevertheless, it is really gross, and I am glad I am quitting.

I would REALLY love a new sig pic from some creative person out there!!!!

I love you all,

Dude, that is F'N disgusting. I guess it could help you quit AND not gain weight. When you want to smoke or, feel you're eating too much...look in your cup, smell it if you have to.

I think people only gain weight because they resort to eating after quitting. Join a gym. You'll get a manly figure, maybe meet some cool people and, it should keep your mind off of smoking.

Everyone is different. You may not gain any weight. Don't even worry about the weight at this point, just concentrate on getting off the cigarettes.

Just curious, how long have you smoked?

Just make something else your "comfort food". I went with carrot sticks for the typical "well, they're about the size and shape of cigarettes" and forgot about smoking after about two weeks, and kept myself from throwing on a spare tire.

I suggested this to a friend of mine once (after having read it in a magazine):

Whenever you feel a craving, have a glass of water. It will help your body flush out the toxins AND it will give you something to do with your hands and mouth.

I also find that green tea is good to help kickstart your metabolism and curb cravings. But that may just be me.

Good luck! :)

BIGJIM -It's not that quiting smoking makes you gain weight, it's that you're taking away a negative behavior without replacing it with a positive one. (or at least a less harmful one).

Some people replace the oral fixation they were getting from smoking with an oral fixation they obtain from eating.

Consciously substituting a different behavior, (like chewing gum, exercising when you feel like smoking, etc) will ensure you don't put on a pound.

this is kinda what i was going to contribute...

i've cut down drastically on smoking, but when i first started to stop smoking, i needed to eat more... so i started eating more...

and now that i've stopped eating so much junk food, i've thinned down a bit... and remained cute and smoke free =)

good luck w/ everything
