I liked that second one. I wish they had mentioned the War on Poverty that LBJ started 40 years and trillions of dollars ago.

I think we can just agree that when the U.S. declares "war" on something without actually fighting a war, you end up with a big, fat sack of jack and shit.

Yeah, that War on Drugs one was ripped off a Boondocks strip. The War on Terror should probably be taken a little bit more seriously, seeing as how a dimebag never killed 4,000 people

Well, most of those who would go to this length to criticize the war are those who are so far to the left that they are Pro-Palestinian.

Yeah, that War on Drugs one was ripped off a Boondocks strip.

Well, the feeling that the American taxpayer was totally jacked by the "War on Drugs" is pretty universal, or at least it should be, so the more the merrier.

And we're all for the "War on Terror", but now it's hidden behind the "War on Iraq" and the "War on Michael Jackson". Boooooooo. Hsssss.

So the implication is that the "Terror War" is going to be run like the "Drug War": impotently and ineffectively. Nasty, nasty. Nobody likes that.

I'm not talking about criticism of Israel, (Credit should be given where credit is due,) but these are people who probably wouldn't lose any sleep if Tel Aviv fell. Agreed, the word anti-Semitism is thrown around far too often when speaking of Middle East politics, but criticism and demanding the end of US support are too different animals. Aaron McGruder is the latter. In a recent speech (It was on C-SPAN and I think it was at George Washington University), Aaron McGruder said that an end of American support for Israel would bring about an end to terrorist attacks against the United States.

The War on Terror and the War on Iraq go hand in hand. Saddam had a hand in the 93 WTC bombing and probably the 2001 attack, but Saddam has the advantage that Osama bin Laden doesn't; he is the leader of a nation. This leaves him with a wide array of resources. Among them, he has the money and intelligence services to assist intricate terrorist operations without getting his own hands dirty. The White House would rather not come right out and say Saddam was involved with them because they don't want to make the same mistake LBJ did. Still, more likely than not, Saddam had something to do with recent attacks on the US and her inerests.

I've said it on this board before: if we could have done it all over again, I would have helped Saddam fight the Ayatollah again and again and again.

Look, I understand at the time it may have seen like the lesser of two evils, but to say in hindsight, especially since you claim to believe that Saddam had a hand in 9/11 and a big role in the '93 WTC attack, that you would still let him operate in relative autonomy under the umbrella of U.S. "support" seems a tad odd. Maybe I'm not understanding something. Maybe it's that if we had instead focused on Iraq, you'd feel Iran would simply take their place in the world stage today, and they would have been the ones to supoort the WTC bombings instead of Iraq? Please clear things up for me...

I mean that given what we knew at that time, we should have made that decision. Of course, if I had a time machine I would have gone back and stopped Saddam from ever being born. But, given the circumstances the US was in at that time, they made the right decision.

It's a ridiculous move to fire anyone for their sexual orientation. I don't care if you are a water purifier in the Army (Take THAT Pauly Shore!!!), let alone a badly needed ARABIC translator. To the best of my knowlegde, US intelligence is in the most dire need of Pashto linguists, followed by Arabic. So this is just about as petty as it gets.

By the way, I love how the US government is painted as murderers of the innocents in Afghanistan. The fact is that the most liberal estimates of civilian casualties in Afghanistan were 2,000. Given what we already know about the unconventional nature of al-Qaeda and Taliban forces, that number is probably significantly less. Even if it is 2,000 that is an extraordinarily low number. It's sad to ever lose 1 civilian, but that is a relatively microscopic number. What's more, the Afghani population has increased by over 1,000,000 over the past year. The population is increasing for the first time since His Majesty Mohammed Zahir Shah abdicated the throne. They must really be running in sheer terror from Americans and their "puppet" regime :)

Hey now, let's not bash on Mojo. I'm liberal.. just not as liberal as Mojo. I think a lot of the comics are funny and actually make a point... mostly the same point, over and over, but that's ok. My criticism was aimed toward the artistic merits of the comics, but the intended purpose of the comics is obviously not to create "art." It's funny to see people say "fuck" in an office setting. I'd like to see more stuff with Voltron.. maybe build up some character development. The one with the guy getting fat after Thanksgiving was funny. I've drawn a lot of comics, and I'd say that most comics are "hits" maybe 30-40% of the time if you're good, so I'd say your buddy is doing well. I'd just like to see some expansion.

Then seriously check out the site or the book (Only $11, same title as the thread). Rees has only been doing the series for a little more than a year, so it's been growing as he goes along...and yes, Voltron got a whole 6 or 7 strips in a row devoted to him, and he shows up every so often now as the oh-so-stylish "Under God?" coatrack.

And sorry about snapping. I get so damn defensive in my own threads.

Mojo, for a guy who worked for the CIA, the most secret organization in the US, you sure talk about it a lot. Confusing.

I was only a GS7 with "top secret" clearance. I don't talk about my work in specifics, nobody really has any idea here what I did for them, and I wasn't a covert op in any way, shape or form. It's like when I talk to my senior intelligence officer dad, and he can basically say that he's in covert op anti-terrorism programs, and that's it. Like this weekend, he can tell me and anyone else he's going TTY ("Business trip") "down south", but not where or why.

Basically I worked in the joint chem/nuke/bio office. I can talk a little about it, but not much. People can feel free to ask whatever they want, and I'll happily answer what I can. Thousands of of "secret" or "top secret"-level people must work for the Agency just to do all the grunt work, and that's where I came in.

And the whole "shit on my front page thing"...what our government does overtly is presented in newspapers, on TV, the internet, etc.. So if it's there for me to consume, it's there for me to comment upon. If something good happens, great, grand, I'm there all the way. Nothing to complain about. But if it pisses me off and I think it's wrong, I'm going to comment and rant and yell and complain. Our country was founded on voices of dissent, so I figure I'm just "moving things down the line"...there will be plenty of people to argue any sides of all issues long after we're both dead, so I'm getting my shots in now.

Don't be so damn snappy when you get snippy.

Snips 'n snails. Like I said, I know a lot of people disagree with me here, so I'm grateful just to be allowed a chance to spout of an opposing view or two. Never anything personal to the people here, or at least I try to keep it that way...

So there were these two Micks, one was a patriotic sunova bitch and the other loved Russian propaganda and Chinese beer.

Mojo, for a guy who worked for the CIA, the most secret organization in the US, you sure talk about it a lot. Confusing.

I figure this thread needs a little unity. Regardless of what "side" you're on, this is about the most accurate reaction one has after watching the news for about an hour.

I seem to recall the mention of "intelligence failures" post 9/11.

Would mentioning employment in the CIA be an "intelligence failure" too but in an entirely different and perhaps broader sense? ;) No offence meant. I am just enjoying the the liberal and jingoistic fencing that is going on.

Loved the "toons" BTW

Awwww, BUMPERSHOOTS!

I once did some work for "legends" for both Langley and some awfully nice people in Cheltenham.

I always used to say though if offered "sex for secrets" I would know about enough to get a blow job! :)

Mojo, who is to blame for the intelligence failures, the CIA or Clinton for destroying it?

No one president or administration "destroyed" the Agency, just a general malaise seem to settle over all of The Company after the Wall came down. Picture an organization that has to suddenly shift gears 180 degrees and fight a totally "new" kind of war that's totally different than the one they've been fighting for a good 40 years. Trust me, nobody in the Agency is looking to "blame" anyone, only to get caught up, ASAP.

The biggest problem is the constant bickering and in-fighting and withholding of vital information between the CIA, DoD, FBI and NSA. Now we've got Homeland Security thrown in the mix, so things are just going to get even more confused and petty.

Besides, nobody cut Agency funding more than Bush the First. He went out of his way to prove to the naysayers that he wasn't going to be a lapdog for his old buddies with the CIA, and probably did more to hinder their activites than any president besides Kennedy.

In Europe we called this the "Peace dividend" and gave succesive governments the excuse to cut back funding on all areas of defence and intelligence.

At one point the only time "Six" got any press was when an employee left his laptop at a South London Tapas bar.

Hey, at least that's just once. The FBI had hundreds of employees walking out with weapons, evidence, files, computers and laptops for years. Whoopsy-daisy!
