View Full Version : Ron & Fez on The Late Show?

Hello all,

I've been holding off on posting this concept because I originally thought it might
be best to keep it more personal and sincere rather than have it be part of a campaign
or "stunt". Perhaps a campaign is exactly what's needed now.

You all know that The Late Show with David Letterman is now live on WNEW.
I found a page on the Late Show web site which annouces it. Interestingly,
on that same page appears an appeal for "Human Interest" guest ideas for
The Late Show. The page appears at http://www.cbs.com/latenight/lateshow/show_info/ls_show_info_pants_news.shtml

Below is a copy of an email I sent to Celia Converse on November 14th.
There has been no reply. Perhaps it's time for another campaign from the
capos...

Dear Ms. Converse,

I found your appeal for guest suggestions on the same web page as the announcement about Dave's simulcast on Infinity radio stations. While you are looking for "regular" people, I'd like to suggest two "extraordinary" people: Ron Bennington and Fez Whatley. As you may or may not know, Ron and Fez are hosts of a comedy/talk show on WNEW-FM in New York and WJFK-FM in Washington, DC. In fact, they are now Dave's "lead in" in both markets.

Ron and Fez are by far the most talented and entertaining radio hosts I've ever heard. They have a solid and growing core of very dedicated fans and they are in fact huge fans of Dave and The Late Show.

Unfortunately, in the fallout from the WNEW Opie and Anthony debacle this summer, Ron and Fez face an uncertain future in New York radio. There is a massive grass roots effort by the listeners to save the program from the inevitable format change at WNEW. An extensive letter-writing campaign addressed to Infinity management and coordinated completely by the listeners is currently underway and has been written about in the New York press. An appearance by Ron and Fez on The Late Show would give a huge boost to the prospects of the only remaining live original program on WNEW and it would unquestionably make a solid and memorable segment for The Late Show.

It is my sincere hope that you will consider inviting Ron and Fez to be guests on The Late Show.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Michael Keen

Letterman does have some pull within the company any kind of support or mention on air, could help Ron and Fez. Great letter man, who letterman will read it or at one of his employees passes on the letter to him

I think you should have left out this part...

Unfortunately, in the fallout from the WNEW Opie and Anthony debacle this summer,

and just left this....

Ron and Fez face an uncertain future in New York radio.

By adding that part to your letter, you make it appear that Ron and Fez cannot do their radio show independent of another. Plus, it would not be good to connect Ron and Fez to a show that Infinity is trying to distance itself from.

That's great Frenchy! I guess the best thing to do is write a similar email to Celia Converse at ceconverse@cbs.com

But please! Have something witty to say! :)

That would be so great if they were on the Late Show. I'm writing a letter to them as well.. What the hell.

In my opinion, Ron & Fez
don't count as ordinary
people. Of course they ARE
ordinary people, as we ALL
are, but in the world of
entertainment, the truth is,
they are more well-known to
the public than say ME,
YOU, or Joe Listener.
Requesting that THEY be
on the show may not meet
their criteria... So, that being
said...

Chickenhawk,

I agree that R&F do not fall into the ordinary folks category. They are celebs (albeit somewhat local). Ms Converse was undoubtedly looking for something else in that particular plea.

However, when I went to Dave's web site looking for a contact, her name was the first (and only) one I saw. I also felt that the fact it appeared on the same web page as the Dave on the Radio news was somehow a good sign.

Certainly, Ms Converse is in a position to at least influence what guests are booked on the show.

So I wonder: What do we have to lose by trying?

Another Thought: Remember all the Oprah Call Dave signs and banners early this year? How about Dave Call Ron & Fez banners?

Here's another link for contacting The Late Show with David Letterman. It's the show's basic feedback form. Perhaps it might get seen by more people than the other email address.
http://www.cbs.com/latenight/lateshow/show_info/ls_show_info_pop_feedback.shtml

Let's get Ron & Fez on The Late Show! Keep writing!

how about trying to get
someone from the
message board onto
letterman. (maybe
someone here has
something "unique" that will
quilify them for the
letterman show.) then they
be on letterman, but just
start talking about rnf. a
trojan horse attack, if you
will.

Just thought I'd bump this to the top again and remind folks to follow through with writing to Dave if they haven't already done so.

One thing I realized after re-reading my original letter is that I did not give any contact information for Dave's people to contact R&F's people. Sure it's all Infinity, but it was dumb of me not to be thorough. Does anybody know the right person/phone number to submit?

Let's keep plugging away!

Hey there! I took the liberty of copying the email addy for David Letterman, and I will also post a request for R and F as well; the more people who do this, the better the results might be!!!

how about trying to get someone from the message board onto letterman.

I've resisted before, but I am now willing to do it for Ron and Fez. Iron Chef has a HUGE cult following in the US; I'll wear one of my many flamboyant costumes, and perhaps bring my Iron Chef Morimoto, his restaurant in Philly is only an hour or so away.

Remember, The Chairman also went to college and knows Rob Burnett, Dave's Executive Producer and the CEO of Worldwide Pants. But I'm only going to make one contact with him, so I am waiting for an enlightened one wiser than me to let me know timing and best pitch info before I call or have lunch with him.

I can't imagine a better inside track than that! I agree that Mr. Burnett should not be approached without very careful planning. In fact, perhaps somebody close to Ron and Fez should ask them if they actually want to be on the show. Things might be delicate for them right now, and they might not want to rock the boat. Hopefully a capo will step in here.

I'm getting excited about this thing. Let's keep it going!

This is classified, in The Chairman's own words, as a "whoosh!".

He's alluding to the Iron Chef host, the eccentric Chairman Kaga, whose face, incidentally, currently appears in at least 3 sigpics - Chairman_Kaga, TooCute and TheGameHHH - on the RF Board.

While our own Kaga has very little pull with the Japanese import show itself, he has mentioned before (in his name-dropping way) that he has alternate avenues of contact to other members of the hierarchy of Infinity/Viacom broadcasting.

I hope CK will use said contacts to their fullest extent and let us know how they turn out.

Also, I think this particular campaign is an excellent idea, regardless of the "search criteria" set out on the Dave website. My father always says the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so why not squeak our wheels everywhere we possibly can?

I'm also available to edit/revise/offer constructive criticism to any and all folks wanting to write a professional letter in this effort.

I also have really neat (albeit slow) handwriting and am willing to help out with sign-making, if that will help too. :)

This is a good idea...I will e-mail the woman AND do the feedback form.

I intend to keep it SHORT and SWEET, which is probably best. :)

I will leave out their whole situation with WNEW and merely suggest that they are teh funniest people on the planet and Dave should consider having them on some time- not sure what they would talk about, though. For all we know, they might've already asked R&F to do the show.
