It's important to diffrentiate between the uvula and the vulva. For purposes of this thread I'll assume that you mean uvula, the fleshy piece of tissue hanging from the middle of the soft palate.

The uvula keeps the nasal passage sealed off when you eat or drink.

The uvula also aids in speech as it helps reflect your voice out of your mouth (instead of out your nose).

I think the uvula is tied to the gag reflex as well.

People with chronic obstructive sleep apnea are sometimes treated with laser surgery that trims and shortens the uvula to allow freer flow of air.
